The last like 20% was really good. The first 80% or so was boring. Still no stand out favourites among the cast of characters.

Lady Smoke continues to be an enjoyable read while still balancing heavier themes. Theo and friends are forced to accept shelter at a desert kingdom with a capital drips so much opulence and politics that I cannot help but think of Versailles. The capital is a stark contrast to the refugee camp outside its walls and brings home how society often treats refugees. The characters continue to be interesting and engaging with Theo being the star of the show with an excellent supporting cast. I enjoyed the twists throughout and that ending was fantastic. Very rude of my library to not have the final book ready for me!

Why did this feel like "The Bachelorette" but make it fantasy royalty vibes? 😂  Our girl Theodosia was making choices that had me yelling at the book, I mean, she's 16, been through a lot, so yeah, the naivety is expected. And this love triangle? I'm here for the drama but let's not drag it? 😅

If you enjoy political scheming, complicated love lives, and friendships turning sour, this one was a must-read. It tackled some tough themes, but in the most tasteful way.

Intinya saja, buku kedua ini jauh lebih baik daripada buku pertama. Kalau di buku pertama Theodosia, si pemeran utama terkesan lebih sering pasrah, di buku kedua ini seolah mata dan hatinya sudah terbuka dan dia menjadi tokoh yang jauh lebih mengesankan. Selain itu plotnya pun jadi lebih rumit, lebih banyak scheming nya dan ngomongin strateginya.

Kalau di buku pertama most readers shipping Theo dan Soren tapi berakhir kecewa, mungkin di buku kedua ini akan lebih terobati. Memang belum sampai berlayar ya shipping mereka kali ini, tapi sudah mulai kelihatan lah ada tanda-tanda cuaca cerah di depan sana. Sebagai salah satu pembaca yang nge-ship mereka, boleh dong berharap? :P

Membaca buku Lady Smoke ini jujur saja menurutku lebih seru dan aku lebih bisa menikmati buku ini dibandingkan Ash Princess. Endingnya sayang masih cukup gantung dan next booknya masih tahun depan. #hiks Tapi yang pasti sih begitu selesai baca buku ini, aku sempat kena book hangover beberapa hari dan jadi ngga nyambung pas mau baca buku baru. Iya, efeknya lebih kuat dibandingkan buku pertama. Kalau sudah begini, cuma bisa berharap buku ketiga sekaligus buku terakhirnya nanti jangan sampai mengecewakan ya.

A bit of an abrupt ending, but man it's poetic :) excited for book 3! Still has me hanging on, just as the first book did.
