I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. The writing style, not using quotation marks, really confused me. Are they speaking out loud or did they say that in their head? I'll admit I was completely lost at times and confused. It was telling you so much but also nothing at the same time. However, some of the stories and characters kept me on my toes and captured my attention.

I really wanted to love this but I found it to be meh.

I’m disappointed about this one - I really wanted to like it. The writing was really good! It was evocative and flowed really well. I think something about the structure of this just made it hard for me to connect with it. There’s only like 4 really looooonngg chapters, which made it kind of impossible to read a little bit at a time, and the main story keeps getting interrupted by the stories of the cemetery. I know I should have expected that, based on title, but maybe if the chapters were broken up into ‘main story’ and ‘cemetery story’ it would have been easier to follow. I really did like the concept, but the execution just didn’t do it for me. Would read from this author again though

What a fantastic story about the magic of storytelling, the power of releasing stories, the way characters in a story can take on a life of their own, our ability to make our own stories, and the power and joy and necessity of listening to stories. It just made me smile and I loved it. I also enjoyed thinking about my NY Dominican neighbors, friends, and viejitas while reading.

A captivating and wonderfully written book, reading The Cemetery of Untold Stories felt like reading a love letter to the act of storytelling. I enjoyed reading the various stories that live in this book, and I enjoyed seeing the way they intertwined, intersected, and paralleled each other. The characters felt vivid and real and when I finished the book, I felt as though I had lived through them. It was beautiful and bittersweet, and I would want to read this one again and again.
