It was a cute story and I could see where it was going. I felt very lost because of how many different stories there were and it would stop in the middle of one and start another one. Parts of the book were in Spanish which made it very confusing for me to understand. In the end some of the stories didn’t even seem to connect whiting left me very unsatisfied. I did enjoy how different it was than other books.

Wonderful writing, but I liked the idea more than the execution. My poor Spanish also hurt

Julia Alvarez's writing is as wondrous as a cemetery for untold stories--I could easily read this book three more times and never stop finding new moments of brilliance.

She just lost me a little bit at the end. But Alvarez writing remains wonder.

My goal is to DNF books i’m not feeling. At 50 pages it was clear I wasn’t engaged as mush as I wanted to be and I wasn’t excited to pick it back up. I struggle when books are written without quotation marks for dialogue and the characters did not win me over.
