I think I’m the wrong audience, while I often enjoy YA books I think this one is more for teenagers than young adults / twenty-somethings. Protagonist is a very stereotypical gen z queer teenager and it was all very exaggerated and too much for my (queer 26 year old) palette.

This book was fun! Jay moves to Seattle from a small town and immediately gets to work on finally accomplishing items on his "Gay Agenda". He makes a few fumbles along the way but learns a lot about himself, his friendships, and what he wants in a romance. I loved it!

I don't know, I just thought it was a bit over the top how much of an ass Jay was being.

I loved this book!
It is messy and funny and makes you want to facepalm and root for a happy ending but also sometimes shout "well you had it coming" at Jay.
It is both realistic and escapist, it captures well the conflicts of Jay finally entering the modern world (I will never stop being amazed on how people live in middle-of-nowhere-remote-places, hours away from civilization, in towns which seem stuck decades in the past) when he moves to Seattle.
The only thing I didn't get invested in was the Lu plotline, I just never felt connected to the character and wanted the book to revert back to Jay, Max, Albert etc.
Some of the bad ratings are very unfair and have to do with readers being personally triggered by one-two bad choices of the MC.
