I loved this book!

It is messy and funny and makes you want to facepalm and root for a happy ending but also sometimes shout "well you had it coming" at Jay.

It is both realistic and escapist, it captures well the conflicts of Jay finally entering the modern world (I will never stop being amazed on how people live in middle-of-nowhere-remote-places, hours away from civilization, in towns which seem stuck decades in the past) when he moves to Seattle.

The only thing I didn't get invested in was the Lu plotline, I just never felt connected to the character and wanted the book to revert back to Jay, Max, Albert etc.

Some of the bad ratings are very unfair and have to do with readers being personally triggered by one-two bad choices of the MC.

I feel like this would have been good for me when younger, but I’m just not here for a book that doesn’t have fantasy or science fiction elements. What I read was good, it just wasn’t for me

To avoid spoilers I will keep this very short.

Jay happens to be the only openly gay boy in his high school in a small rural town. He is yet to experience love and romance and he real real real wants to. So when his parents tell him that they are moving to Seattle right in the centre of Gay capital he cannot be more excited. He makes a list of things he really wants to do. High on the list is having his very first gay encounter (meet another gay person) and get a boyfriend.

Just when he seems to be about to get all the things on his list ticked off, things start to go array! I really enjoyed this story, I just wished we didn't have to read the list every other page.

As cute as this was, I prefer when couples in romances have to face external conflicts together rather than have conflict between each other.

This book is very cute! Some stuff was awkward in that no kid talks that way irl but it was a cute story I really liked it. It's a quick and easy read, and I love that gay highschool boys have this. 4.5 bc I wouldn't necessarily re read it but I think this book deserves more love than a 3.6 rating so I'll give a 5. It's cute and understandable and I think it's great for queer youth to read about books with honest characters having healthy conversations, being vulnerable with each other, the importance of honesty in feelings etc. Characters who mess up, acknowledge their mistakes, make them right, but also give grace to those they have hurt and allow space for forgiveness, healing, and personal space. Good dialogue in not pressuring people to accept apologies instantly and to allow ppl the space they need to process. I think it's a great book for kids to have an example of healthy relationships centered around honesty. I also love the conversation Jay had with Max about pronouns, it was quick nbd and respectful. I think it's a great example to kids on how to share your pronouns with someone. Though, it would have been cool if Jay used she/her pronouns when referring to Max too not just exclusively he/him.

Juste incroyable !
