The book was written as dystopian, but our society is moving closer and closer to this storyline. The short chapters made for easy reading, but the fact that each chapter focused on a different character made the reading a little harder. The characters were quickly established and then it was easier to make the shifts.

An interesting alt reality novel looking at the effects of extreme conservatism on abortion, adoption, and ivf. The writing style was skillful and unique. lots of ideas to unpack, lots of metaphors and symbols

Margaret Atwood, meet Brian Doyle. I love how Zumas’ spare writing blends vivid imagery with complex story strands.

Timely. I loved following the intersecting lives of the four protagonists a la Pulp Fiction or Crash, and there were many beautifully written — if not haunting — sentences.
