Dragged. Bit - not a fan of the constant wat

War and battles are not my favorite parts of the Temeraire series, and this book was nearly all that. I did enjoy quite a bit of it, but it started to drag on a bit once the crew met up with the Prussians.

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

So.
After the disappointment of the second book, the third one leaves nothing to chance. Temeraire and her rider are coming back home. Well, this time via Europe. That's how the term Eurotrip probably originated. You've got frigid mountains and sweltering deserts to cross, band of feral dragons to pursue, raiders to fight against, face Napoleon.

*calms down*

As I said before, this book has got almost everything right. Faster paced, more gritty wars, heartbreaks and disasters, even James Bond type espionage. Not to mention that Temeraire, the dragon is reading trigonometry.

The first part of the book is a travelogue depicting their adventures as they travel from China to Turkey. The later half is the truth of what they missed while they were at the other end of the world. Napoleon is advancing, one country at a time. It all comes to head at Germany where the Prussians stand down to face the megalomaniac Emperor. But unbeknownst to all, Bonaparte has someone as his advisor. A someone, who can change all the rules in an instant.

For Laurence and Temeraire, good news is a long way coming.

Oh I'd love to go on and on but that would have to include spoilers and I really don't want that. I'm still under the post reading effects. Elevated heart beat and dozens of dragon related thoughts.

Onwards to book 4

Temeraire is a gem as always. This one goes into more large-scale battle tactics, which is rad.

I'm only reading this for Temeraire, Tharkey,Iskierka and the feral dragons progression.
Honestly Iskierka couldn't have been introduced at a better time. She gave much needed comedic relief to the story.

Better than the last one, I really enjoy the Temeraire reform for dragons side plot!
