To my delighted surprise, the prose of this book was every bit as strong and seductive, spare, and lyrical as I wanted it to be. The narrator has layers and depths that, along with the mesmerizing undulations and overlappings of the waves of time throughout the narrative, keep the story moving without weighing it down in angst or melodrama. The fantasy is gentle and compelling, the historical groundwork is a wonderful theme that adds depth and thought-provoking context to the mystery, which is well-presented in the very best traditions established by Agatha Christie.

Boring. DNF.

I enjoyed the time period and setting. Entertaining read. A couple of plot lines I thought were too unrealistic, and I didn't like the ending, or the random breaking of the fourth wall.

Gosh what a book. I loved it.

Holy melodrama, Batman!

Not my kind of book, but an intriguing premise. So over the top though. I'll give a nod to not seeing a twist or two coming, but I wouldn't if I was so unengaged by the writing, would I? By the time I realized why I was supposed to care about so much belaboured trauma, I was a bit beyond caring. A little extra painful as an audiobook. The narrative voice is all over the map.

Deludente. Storia troppo ridicola.
