It's LGB. I have zero interest in Gay romance stories.

Who dunnit in a historical setting. Nobody is quite sure who the ‘Rat’ is outing the Mollys in London. Guessed who the rat was about halfway through but the story was still compelling
I didn’t gel with the writing at all unfortunately, found myself getting bored and avoiding reading

Graphic: Homophobia, Violence
(Not me reading an ARC of this almost a year late)
This was unexpectedly very good!
I knew nothing of the existence of 'molly houses' and their culture even though one could have guessed there were ways for non-heteronormative men to congregate and have fun. The book was educational, eye-opening and thrilling to read. While I did not connect to the side characters (I'd say this is the one major flaw) and only truly cared about Gabriel and Thomas, the story overall was so well-researched, I felt as if on the streets of early 1700s London (ah, the stench!). Also unexpectedly (or not? I am an emotional reader, after all) but by the time it was time for the conclusion to roll around, I was invested and ended up severely teary-eyed.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend to those interested in historical fiction uncovering the very grim pages of history and how abhorrently and disrecpectfully the LGBTQ+ community was treated back then (and still is but that's a story for another day).
TW for lots of gore!
*thank you Edelweiss for the advanced reader's copy of this book*
