Age recommendation: 10+

This collection of comic books was the beginning of the resurgence of Archie Comics, and I am grateful for it. The format had grown stale over the years, and this was just the kick it needed. While keeping the same style Archie is famous for, they introduced Keven Keller, the Archie universe's first openly gay character, to Riverdale. For middle schooler's hitting puberty and coming to grips with their sexuality, a positive role model for themselves (if they're gay), or a stand in for someone different than them (if they're not), is a great thing. The fact that Kevin is gay doesn't make anyone in Riverdale think of him differently, and is just a facet of who the character is. The biggest ripple this "revelation" has on any of the characters, is that Veronica has to reorient her feelings after she learns, because she initially has a crush on him. Highly recommended for both it's positive message, and great storytelling.

Not bad. Does a good job of introducing a gay character into a classic comic series. Suitable for middle school and up.

I used to read Archie as a kid. I didn't keep up with the books/stories, but it was a comic that you could reliably find in digest format in the supermarket or drugstore. So when a digest caught my eye, I bought it and happily read it. It has been quite some years since I read an Archie comic, but when I heard they were introducing a gay character, I was very curious to see what that would look like in Riverdale.

I was not disappointed. They have brought Archie into the modern world (Veronica racks up quite the texting bill, which just seems about right) - at least enough that we don't feel shunted back to the 50s. I had seen the new character art a few years back, so that didn't surprise me, and seemed to fit well.

But on to Kevin and his story...

I liked that the main Archie gang was very welcoming of a gay character, without batting an eye. But they also don't back down on exploring the bullying in Kevin's past and a faction in Riverdale that is not so accepting. They gave Kevin only a few stereotypical traits, and largely let him be his own character - he can go head to head with Jughead's appetite, he wants to be a journalist and a military man like his father etc etc.

So, all in all, it fits what I would come to expect of an Archie book. But at this point in my life there is only so many issues of Archie I can take before I burnout on Archie. A solid Archie comic.

This book is a great introduction to Kevin Keller in Riverdale. His first appearance in Archie Comics is in this book.

Kevin plays a funny role in the group. He is Jughead’s equal when it comes to eating. They have many eating contests. Veronica was very attracted to him at first, even ditching Archie to go after Kevin. But that was before she knew he was gay! It turns out he is the one guy in Riverdale who doesn’t want to date Veronica.

This book also showed a lot of Kevin’s family life. He traveled around the world with his family growing up because his dad was in the military. Kevin even wants to follow in his dad’s footsteps and be a reporter in the military.

I loved this book! I can’t wait to read more Kevin Keller comics!

I absolutely love how these comics introduced Kevin. The first comic in this set was really funny. Poor Veronica falls for Kevin's good looks and no one tells her that he's gay even though they all know. Jughead and Betty have their reasons of course.

Loved Kevin's fast friendship with Jughead. He's treated just like any other character in the comics really. He fits into Archie's group really well. Easy conversation wit Betty and Veronica. Similar attitudes to the group.

For a while, he seemed too much of a Gary Stu, though. He's an aspiring journalist. He's really smart. He's an army brat that wants to join the military so he's pretty athletic. In the later comics, you start seeing him more like a regular teen. He's awkward. He gets stage fright. He's a bit clumsy. He doesn't always know what he's doing.

My favorite comics were the ones that gave us background on him. Why he started writing and why he wants to join the military. How he met his closest friends. It gave a lot of insight into the character. Also loved the running for student president arc. I liked seeing how Kevin dealt with homophobia and seeing Archie and the gang sticking up for him. Even Reggie.

In the fifth comic, there is a little cliffhanger with Jerry. I need more on what's going on with him. Someone, please tell me if that happens in later comics. Not just the small bit about him we get in the sixth comic of this book.

I definitely had some other issues here and there. This is straight up cheesy most of the time but I really couldn't stop smiling. I was definitely ready to see some kind of romance plot for him when I finished this set because I realized there really wasn't any of that in the first six Kevin Keller comics I read. Hoping there is a little of that in the next collection.

I found the whole thing boring. it's been a long time since I read an Archie comic and this did not make me want to look at one again. sad to say Kevin Keller did nothing for me.

Truly enjoyed this sweet and fluffy story. Kevin shows us how he gets ready for his first date and all the mishaps that happen to him, it is just too cute!
