Lady Sophia loves her family very much but with all the changes that have happened recently, the loss of two of her brothers and the happy marriages of three others, within her big family she just wants some quiet time to herself. She’s hoping to spend the weeks before the family Christmas holiday by herself at the London townhouse. But when she unexpectedly becomes guardian for a baby she finds much needed help in Vim Charpentier. A snowstorm keeps them together longer than intended but that gives them the time to bond over the smiles of their unexpected ward. When her brother’s whisk her away Vim has to accept that they only shared a moment or fight for the woman he’s fallen in love with.

Another great read from Grace Burrowes. This romance starts out with a lot of quiet moments that draw Lady Sophia and Vim together. It’s the little things that draw them together but once they find each other, it’s their attraction and bond that keeps them together. I’ve fallen in love with the Windham family and am so excited for the series to continue.

n this new series from Burrowes it is time for the Windham sisters to find love and we start with Sophie.

This book is different from the 3 about the brothers. This one is slower, not in a bad way, but the other books had their big secret and a bit of drama connected to that. While this one had a more peaceful pace and even if there was passion it was not as big. I will get to the reason of this all soon enough.

Sophie has been out for a long time, but she has yet to marry. She is the sensible daughter who takes in strays cats and limp horses. She is quiet and nice and she is all alone in a big house with a baby that was left behind. In comes our hero who she meets and who helps her. This book is also as much about the baby as it is about these two. Vim stays to help, he a good man, nice, helpful and falling for a woman who he does not know is a Duke's daughter. That is where the tiny drama comes in, mostly because of a misunderstanding.

I liked how they grew closer together thanks to the baby. They cared for him together and fell in love (and lust). There is where the stillness of this book comes in, for a long time it is just the two of them and baby Kit. Then when it changes the tone of the book changes to a bit, the stillness is not as still, but there is still a calm as forces try to get them together.

Conclusion:
A nice Christmas tale about love and family.

I really liked this book. Sophie had managed to get a few days completely to herself in her parents' home without anyone else around. She ended up with an abandoned baby and was rescued by Vim Charpentier. Thanks to the storm, and the fact she knew nothing about caring for a baby, she was able to talk Vim into staying at the house with her and helping her with the baby. Neither of them had told the other who they really are, so there are no social expectation. The more time they spend together, the more they come to care for each other and for baby Kit. When Sophie and Vim are discovered by her brothers, things start to get interesting. Vim has bad memories of an encounter with Sophie's father, and feels that will keep him from being able to court Sophie as he would like. Sophie doesn't want to marry for anything except love, and has not heard those words from Vim. I enjoyed seeing the brothers start to behave a bit more like their father, with his interference. I knew there would be a happy ending, but the process made for a good story.

Oh I just loved this. So sweet and just made me smile the whole time. The way Sophie and Vim were so confident and connected so easily. And the bonding over the adorable baby! There was partly a miscommunication troupe, but it wasn't the driver of the whole story and I love how it all ended up. Spicy and romantic and swoonworthy. And the perfect winter / Christmasy setting! I need to read more in this series asap.

If you're in the mood for a Christmas Book™️ this was fairly cute. I haven't read the previous books in the series, but didn't feel like I was missing too much.

I do think it would have worked better for me as a novella - there was just a little too much repetition for my tastes.

There was one thing that was handled very poorly that soured my enjoyment of the ending.
Where the Duke is essentially like "see how fat she's gotten? Aren't you glade I did what I did all those years ago, otherwise you might have married the fat disgusting cow" So no I will not be going back to read the Duke and Dutchess's books

A lot of the conflict in this book centers on miscommunication, and could be resolved with a conversation. However, Burrows did a good job making it clear why they were reluctant to be completely open with each other.
