• The most important things you need in life are good principles
• Principles are ways of successfully dealing with realities that you will encounter ; they are recipes for success
• Principle #1 – think for yourself while being radically open-minded
• Dreams + Reality + Determination = a successful life
• Pain + Reflection = Progress

• 5-step process for being successful:

o Step 1 – GOALS – know your goals and run after them ; set goals based on your passion, strengths and weaknesses
 You will have to find these goals by trial and error/ reflection etc
o Step 2 – PROBLEMS
o STEP 3 – DIAGNOSIS
o STEP 4 – DESIGN – Design a plan that will get you around the problem
o STEP 5 – EXECUTE

• EGO BARRIERS and BLINDSPOTS
o Ego prevents us from recognizing our weakness
o BLIND SPOT exists because people see things differently ; no one can see all the Threats and opportunities. Thus, if you can look at things with the help of others ; you will notice more
o Look for people who THOUGHTFULLY DISAGREE with you

• Meaningful work and Meaningful relationships are the greatest assets and rewards
• Create a culture in which it’s ok to make mistakes and unacceptable not to learn from them

Engaging yet worryingly utilitarian practical view of the lifecycle of a western professional.

There is a refreshingly hard look at the inevitable declining years of life: losing one family and friends to the ravages of time, along with one's more ego-driven abilities and ambitions.

A core approach seems to be a Terminator-like algorithm of tracking for problems, identifying solutions, and acting. Surely this is an effective approach in the boardroom or the engineer's design house - but is that all that life is about? Is there not something more to being alive and human, than juggernauting along, evaluating progress and solving problems?

However, I still hope to read the full "Principles" text, in case I have missed something...

Succinct version of the Real Book

This is a great visual starter for the Big Book and for the video series. His 800-page book is a must have for every leader. But if you're not going to read that, ateast start here. Then read this every year.

what attracted me to pick this up was actually it being an illustrated + concise book; a non-fiction book turned into a picture book!!!!

its so interesting how this could be easily be read in a day but there were plenty of good learning points. im very amazed at how the contents have been condensed from a 600 pages down to 157 pages yet still so helpful. :") honestly i have yet to read the book but reading this picture book version was the right amount of content for me + probably something that was much needed; felt like i was reading it at a right time to look at my goals and intentions as we are approaching the new year. its really important to know how to set goals & learn from mistakes.

i really love the prompt questions on reflecting on our own principles & a collection of the author's principles towards the end of the book. it gives a really nice conclusion to wrap up the book and i really appreciate it as it makes it easier to understand the topic as a whole too.

recommend if youre looking for a bite-sized read on life advice and generally if you enjoy reading picture books.

"my only hope for you is that you will live by your own good priniciples that will help you decide what to do - and give you the courage to do it".

Yesterday, I scanned the "work self-help" shelves at my local library and checked out several books (more "me, me, me" to come!). This book's primary merit: brevity. This morning, before reading the one-sitting picture book, I Googled Ray Dalio to make myself as alert as possible to the background of the "wisdom" I was about to take in. I see you, Ray.

This book was a useful (fast!) read if only to push against.

Here's a man, with incredible wealth and power, whose principles for success are focused on the individual and are missing mutual betterment. I'll expect more of myself than setting goals that perpetuating the mono-culture described in this book, which also fails to acknowledge systemic bias as a "problem" blocking people from "success."

Thinking about what being a "hyperrealist" could look like for me.

A must-read with invaluable guidance.
I’d certainly re-read it over and over again.

Remark: my first ebook-reading of 2021 (via Libby)

漫画形式概括了文字版的主要内容,结合2021的Bridgewater performance,只能感叹alpha确实艰难,给自己定下的principle大概还是好好坚守index fund。

A really short, colourfully-illustrated book that summarises Ray Dalio’s principles for success. Written simply and easy to understand, this is a cute and wise book suitable for all ages.
