i’ve been waiting and waiting for my next book of hers to come in so i picked this one up and i’m glad i did! i got a different world but just as interesting as the others and i think i will like this series!
I wish I'd read it a lot sooner, like years earlier, back at the peak of the paranormal craze. I believe I'd have enjoyed the heck out of the whole series.

Just when I thought I couldn't possibly read one more paranormal/vampire hunter book - bang - comes this new Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh and I'm soooo hooked. I was so surprised by this book. The mythology and world building are unique and unforgettable. I found Ms. Singh's hero Raphael to be such a dark hero - and wondered if he would become a character I could believe in. I should not have worried. In the deft hands of Ms. Singh, each character is developed with extraordinary and creative brush strokes allowing the story, the world and the relationships to unfold and evolve. Each new mystery is not instantly solved, but rather in the background being revealed when necessary to the plot and our understanding of the characters and their motivations. Bravo! Loved this book and I'm loving the series. Waiting anxiously for the next in the series.
I love this series, I’ve re-read many, many times… this first book is the weakest of the series. But it gives the series plenty of space for character development and growth!!
Welp, the first 40% of this book is completely about setting up a relationship between a female vampire hunter and the archangel who wants to/needs to/thinks about killing her.
Then it gets better, as in, we dive into an actual plot and are introduced to glitzy secondary characters like our extremely old, albeit extremely sexy vampire head of security and also, a mega bitch archangel. Need I say more?
But the last 40 pages? They’re what sold me. I think Nalini Singh is kind of brilliant. She lulled me into ‘meh-land’ with her first 200 pages to lower my expectations, and then she pulled out this awesome ending. She stuffed all her mythology, all her world building and most of her characterization in the last quarter of the book.
And sex. This book fairly drips it. Literally, Raphael drips this angel dust and that is one of the sexiest things I’ve read in a while. Not to mention the wings, the eyes, the angel dust…wait, I already said that. Unfortunately, the sexiness is so unbalanced in this book. Raphael = sex god, Elena = bad ass blood hound. Really, of all five of our senses, the most un-sexy is the sense of smell. Poor Elena is strapped with the uncanny and unbelievable ability to sniff out her prey. Hot. Oh well, the angel dust more the makes up for Elena.
I’m off to see if my husband can work some glitter.

I wish I could get my money back from this trash.

Okay so when this book first went on my radar I was so excited because of all the wonderful reviews with the majority being 5 star reviews. So I bought the first three books (second hand) and happily put them on my TBR shelf. Anyway, this week I went camping and I thought what a wonderful opportunity to read such a well-loved paranormal romance (PNR).
The first 100 pages I was hooked! The character and world building were brilliant for a PNR and I loved the idea that angels made vampires, a new twist on the vampire pop culture! The angels intrigued me and then we met Raphael and boy, oh boy, was he sexy!
I know that you cannot expect much from a PNR when it comes to plot, a lot of it is just sexy times, and I knew this going into the book, but still I was disappointed with the lack of plot. There seemed to be a lot of talk about this Villain and yet not much happened with him and the final scene with him was such a let down.
I don't know I just found the whole book predictable, I knew where it was going from the get go and when my theories were actually what happened I was sad and even a little angry. Also, for a steamy book I expected a little more steam.
I don't know this book just didn't do it for me.
I would recommend to lovers or PNR but for the average Joe, like me, I would not recommend.
Happy reading!

I'm really busy lately so I can't give this sucker a full review, but I'll touch on a couple things really quickly.
I've already made a point in some of my other reviews to express how great of an author I think Nalini Singh is, but I'm going to reiterate. She manages to spin believable worlds out of distinctly paranormal plot lines without giving us the flood of information so prevalent in fantasies. Combined with wonderfully flawed, yet still likable characters and just enough mystery to make things interesting, and you've got yourself a quality read.
Her Guild Hunter world is both new and old for the paranormal genre. She uses vampires but they aren't the creatures that I'm basically tired of reading about. She takes advantage of the "organization" plot device in her Hunter Guild without filling it with irritating politics and secondary characters. Reading this book was like a nice breath of fresh air for me. I'm growing weary with the same plots and this tossed me out of my boredom for a good afternoon.
The only thing stopping it from getting five stars from me is the painfully cliche ending. I totally called that within the first 50 pages of the book. Granted, it's a romance, so a Happily Ever After is a must, but I wish things could have been shaken up a little bit.
I'll definitely be reading the upcoming sequels to this though, they're certainly worth picking up.
