Well... that was interesting.

Cailin is insufferable sometimes, a lot of times. That is all I have to say.

And the Ash King singing? Peak entertainment.

Again, I will be here waiting for the day I come to fully appreciate books like this.

Not gonna lie this one had me stressed out. RFK strapped me down on a rollercoaster of emotions and slapped the back of that bad boy with a big smile on her face. Do I love the Ash King? Yes. Is he a horrible bastard? Also yes. I’m not a strong woman.

She refused to trust and talk to him like a stubborn mule. Really annoyed me

I just lost faith in the characters, and there wasn't enough world building to keep me going.

I should have guessed this wasn't going to be the book for me when our FMC hopes a new ruler will simultaneously cut taxes and provide more funding for teachers and libraries. She's uncommitted to a rebellion, sweet on a man who - even if you ignore the thing that gave him his name - is an aggressive pos and is uncritically accepting of
Spoilerthe news that the anarchists are working with a rival nation and are the baddies of the story
. She's just very along for the ride and I'm not feeling it. She's so along for the ride that she accepts ridiculous behaviour on the part of MMC with barely a hint of an apology and to be honest the more I think about this the more annoyed I am.

Everyone in this weird volcanic fake Ireland deserved better.

”Everyone is a Mountain”

This book was fantastical and action packed and while it wasn’t my favorite Rebecca F Kenney book it was still spicy as hell and wildly entertaining. Give me a broody MMC with a hidden past and a heroine with unique and powerful magic any day!!!!
