I liked this okay, but didn't really care for the reader of the audio book. I made it not as enjoyable as it maybe could have been. The story was pretty good, though.

I love the bitten series, but the moment I saw this book was from Eve’s perspective, I was disappointed. After hearing about Eve in the previous installments, her personality didn’t really match that. It was also disappointing that we missed Lucas and Paige’s wedding or just the events around that. I don’t know if they make reference to it in later books, but I feel like I missed out. The villain of this book was really interesting and so was learning about the rules of the afterworld. That’s the main reason I gave this book 3 stars instead of 1.

Kelley Armstrong manages to create these amazingly detailed worlds. I can't get enough of this series!

Eve: "My gaze slid back to the praying inmate. I'd never been what you call a religious person. I've even been known to be somewhat disparaging of faith, and those who throw themselves into it. Too many people spend their lives focused on insuring a good place in their next one, instead of embracing the one they have. that smacks of laziness. If your life sucks, you fix it, you don't fall on your knees and pray for someone to make it better next time."

Trsiel: "Ghost hunters can be the most ingenious breed when it comes to inventing ghastly tales, but ask them to think up a name for the ghost of a woman dressed in white, and they give you "the White Lady."

Eve: "Why?"
Trsiel: "You're right. Huh. That's strange."
Eve: "That's not the answer I'm looking for."
Trsiel: "Well, uh..." He looked around. "This kind of thing happens sometimes. It's an interdimensional warp in the fabric of time and space."
Eve: "You have no idea, do you?"
Trsiel: "No, but that sounded good when they said it on Star Trek."

I liked Eve as a character, but some parts of the storyline were a bit strange; the pirates scene, for example.

This book took me a long bit to get into. The beginning of teh book was a lot of set up but the end of the book was amazing!

Don't waste your time. I found one of Armstrong's earlier books mildly entertaining (I occasionally enjoy a foray into fantasy fiction), but this one didn't even rise to that level. I quit reading it after a few chapters, and should have stopped sooner. With apologies to the joke about baseball, this novel was marked by long stretches of tedium, with intervening moments of sheer boredom.
