Ok wow who’s cutting onions???😭 this was a beautiful story. Evelyn is trying to escape her abusive ex and her latest alias brings her to Montana. She finds a flyer for a job at a ranch, which leads us to our MMC Lucas, who runs the ranch. The ranch specializes in emotional support animals, and here comes Evelyn who’s just as skittish as the horses they help. Over the course of the story we learn more about Evelyn’s past and let me just say I definitely cried more than once😭 My heart broke for her. She is so strong and I loved her character. Lucas’s primal need to protect her was so endearing. He really would do anything for her and I loved how all his friends rallied around her even after the short time they knew her🧡

If you’re looking for a girl on the run, protective MMC, story of resilience then i definitely recommend this one🧡

Montana Sanctuary by Josie Jade-Janie Crouch
Resting Warrior Ranch #1

Woman on the run
Evil chasing her
Safe haven needed
A place to rest
But – not eternally

This was a great introduction to a series filled with good men giving back in their own way on a ranch dedicated to those in need. Coming in on the first book in the series was a delightful way to spend the day!

What I liked:
* Evelyn: running from a sadistic ex who always finds her, suffering PTSD, needs a safe place to land, loves animals and is good with them, doesn’t trust easily, rather taken with Lucas
* Lucas: retired Navy SEAL, good with animals, one of the men at Resting Warrior Ranch, father was abusive, has a bit of PTSD too, good with the skittish-human and animal, is taken with Evelyn and wants to keep her safe
* The men on the ranch…introduced to each with a hint about who some of them may end up with in future books of the series
* Meeting some of the women that may end up with the men at the ranch: Grace, Lena, and Mara
* Aspen: a special dog that makes a connection with Evelyn
* A horse that needed a name and the person who helped it
* The relationship that developed between Lucas and Evelyn – he was so good with her!
* The location in Montana
* That the bad guy was thwarted eventually – just wished that he had suffered a bit first

What I didn’t like:
* Nathan the abusive sadist and what he got away with for too long
* Those that allowed Nathan to get away with what he did
* What Evelyn went through and knowing that there are others being treated badly even as I type this

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yess

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Evie has changed her name 13 times to try to evade her psycho rich, tech billionaire nepo baby ex-fiance, who keep sending her bracelets with the death date of her assumed identity. She runs to Montana and sees an ad for a cleaner on a farm. She finds a PTSD veteran healing centre run by a bunch of buff veterans who seem remarkably in touch with their emotions. The one guy instantly takes it upon himself to help and also protect her, without being overbearing or pushy. He lets her stay in one of the cabins and helps her find a job at the local coffee shop. They slowly start vibing and she eventually tells him everything (including how her ex repeatedly burnt her with her engagement ring in order to brand her). They play a very unnerving game of cat and mouse with the crazy billionaire and then just like murder him at the end with absolutely no repercussions (it was self-defense and this is America we are talking about).

It's sort of a cute story, but the ending was cringy.

Emma Wilder did a good job on the narration.

I feel like I can’t rate this because I learned I can’t do suspense. Especially bc it makes me stay up until the next day

Also this book needs trigger warnings
Needles, unwanted branding, being burned alive, being buried alive, suspense
