This was going well. But the choices made at the climax were bizarre. The bad guy consistently outsmarted them. And the decision to leave the Ranch to help Lena was 100% insane.

It’s in equal parts exactly what I expected and better than anticipated. I liked the characters (some already known from other books), the story was interesting and I loved the setting.

Very meh. The suspense was kind of fun up until the end which ended way too fast and didn't allow any tension to really build. The romance sucked, honestly. I pretty much hated everything about the romance. A quick read if you like tropey, lifetime movie style reads with subpar romances but I'd say you can skip this if that's not your jam.

Montana Sanctuary is the start of a new series by Janie Crouch and Josie Jade. Janie is one of my go-to authors for romantic suspense, and Josie was completely new to me, which makes sense considering this is her debut. And I'll just say right here that these two made a terrific writing duo. Lucas and Evelyn were everything I wanted and more. Lucas is a combination of horse-riding cowboy with a heart of gold and a tough as nails SEAL - what's not to love, right? Evelyn is so much stronger than she gives herself credit for, and both have been through more than their fair share and they have some healing to do. Of course, there are some hurdles to jump for this couple, and their journey is full of danger and intrigue. I always expect great things from Janie Crouch and she never disappoints, and from what I've seen in this first Resting Warrior Ranch book, Josie Jade is another name for my list of must-read authors. This first book in the series has set the bar high, but I believe this pair is up for the task and I can't wait to see what's next.

3.5 stars. Almost 4, but the overdone trope and predictable nature of it brings it down a smidge.

I enjoyed reading this story. There were LOTS of times where I just had to roll my eyes, mutter “it’s FICTION” and get on with it.
My biggest peeve though is how do these former Navy Seals magically have enough money for all this land, animals, security and resources? And how are they running a therapy ranch without ZERO qualifications- and it seems as if there’s not much going on at the ranch anyway.

But oh well.

It’s a good read. I look forward to continue the series.
