Whimsical and nostalgic but I was too stuck on everything that the main character should NOT be doing with a child as a teacher's aide. Telling a 7 year old to keep a secret, making sure he has your phone number, placing him on your lap and giving him kisses before you were even considered as an adoptive mother? Felt completely unethical. The rest of the book was unremarkable.

This will tug at your heartstrings. Iโm glad I saved it for this time of year, because it perfectly captures the magic of the season in a delightful feel-good package.
If Willy Wonka were reimagined as a childrenโs book author, eccentric and unpredictable as ever, but darker with more adult topics: foster care system, child abandonment, toxic relationships, poverty, miscarriage, and see trigger warnings below. When you read this you will experience the joy of seeing the world through the eyes of a child. Get your tissues ready!
TW: There is one reference to child abuse/molestation and child death (not graphic but a mention of). Without this I would have recommended it to my 10 year old as it has very similar vibes to some of the Roald Dahl beloved books of my childhood.

Itโs an easy read, but around chapter 19 it picks up and is a page turner, like a read to the end in one sitting. This book was only a 2 day read for me though. Anyway, I would definitely recommend this book. This will be one of my favorites. I love it enough Iโm going to buy it.
Cozy mystery.When Lucy gets back to the island I saw it coming but not exactly, the twist is slightly unexpected, but I guessed the overall ending. Itโs definitely a feel good, exciting read.

I really enjoyed this story. It had a little bit of everything, drama, romance, familial love and pain. Iโm so happy Christopher and Lucy and Jack got such happy endings, itโs so rare in literature. You really fall in love with all the characters throughout the course of the book. Only critique is Lucy was kinda whiny at some points and acted so helpless/like a damsel in distress about her situation kinda (it was kinda unrealistic and I feel like it wouldโve been better if she didnโt seems so helpless and was trying to change her situation a bit for herself when the miracle came) and Hugo is kinda annoying with his fake broading artist shtick like yes something bad happened to you (something bad happens to everyone) but you donโt have to be miserable forever like he made it his personality very obnoxious like being happy again is actually more brave then wallowing in misery, but they both have redeemable qualities.
