There were aspects of this book I really loved: Hugo and Jack’s relationship and the interactions between Hugo and Lucy, most especially.

Without spoiling anything, I found the ending very satisfying, even if other parts of the book were dark and difficult for me to get through because of my own personal story within the foster care system and dysfunctional parts of my home life growing up.

I wanted to love Lucy’s relationship with Christopher, the love, and care, and growth is definitely a beautiful thing, but I found it hard to suspend disbelief regarding the boundaries of their relationship. This read was magical and endearing in its own way, and even healing in parts. I didn’t find it cozy per se, but I’m glad I read it.

So sweet! But a little too much adoption-savior complex for my taste

A friend recently asked for a recommendation for a feel-good book. Told her to read this one. Definitely a warm and fuzzy, and everything gets tied in a nice bow, though there are a few story strands that probably weren’t necessary. I really liked the lawyer character, even though she really only had a small supporting role.

I really enjoyed this story. It had a little bit of everything, drama, romance, familial love and pain. I’m so happy Christopher and Lucy and Jack got such happy endings, it’s so rare in literature. You really fall in love with all the characters throughout the course of the book. Only critique is Lucy was kinda whiny at some points and acted so helpless/like a damsel in distress about her situation kinda (it was kinda unrealistic and I feel like it would’ve been better if she didn’t seems so helpless and was trying to change her situation a bit for herself when the miracle came) and Hugo is kinda annoying with his fake broading artist shtick like yes something bad happened to you (something bad happens to everyone) but you don’t have to be miserable forever like he made it his personality very obnoxious like being happy again is actually more brave then wallowing in misery, but they both have redeemable qualities.
