It was different. She always offers new ideas with her books and even though it is easy to get lost in the begining it was worth finishing. Definitely a book to remember.
this was actually so much more enjoyable than expected, a different genre compared to twilight and didn’t read as if it were by the same author at all. a really great dystopian novel with some amazing character building and plot lines. one thing i didn’t enjoy was the romantic side, it felt like it was missing something and honestly i found the love interest uncomfortable, though i can’t quite put my finger on that. was also missing the climax that i was looking forward to, which did make the story overall read whistle flat, as there seemed to be no real risk past a certain point. extremely easy to read and i felt myself get lost in it - i do love me some dystopia/ end of the world fiction.

First, I want to preface this by saying I never have nor will I ever read any of the Twilight books.
With that out of the way, I admit I was absorbed into the world of Melanie and Wanda. Their struggle was fascinating to me; I love psychology, and I felt like it was captured very well. Wanda's journey was particularly compelling. I love the growth she experienced, and the growth of the other characters as they grew to know her.
Admittedly, there wasn't much in way of action, despite the constant build-up to it later in the book. I almost wish there was since even Wanda noticed that things were "too easy". However, to say that there wasn't conflict would be completely ignoring the entire story.
The love story was wonderful. I don't mean the Jared/Melanie/Wanda triangle that never felt fully developed for me. I mean Ian and Wanda. That was developed well, and I especially enjoyed how Ian fell in love with WHO Wanda was rather than WHAT she was.
It's true the ending was too easily tied together, and that encounter before the ending felt entirely too convenient. But I enjoyed the journey there and that's the important part.
I would recommend this to those who enjoy the inner struggles of a character rather than outside antagonists. Also, any book that makes you question what it really means to be "human" is well worth the read.

I loved this book as a young teen but haven’t picked it up in a while. Honestly, it holds up pretty well, except for the weird Stephanie Meyer-isms. Did the underage stuff like… really need to be a plot point?
This one wasn't for me at all. I struggled to get through it. It was SO BORING and basically nothing really happens. Such a long book too! I felt no emotional connections to any of the characters. I feel like I just lost almost 3 weeks of my life reading this book when I could have read at least 5 good ones in that time!

I have found that you either love this book and reread it often or don't care for it all. I fall into the first category. The concept of the story is fascinating. Aliens that exists as a parasite species and live inside a hosts body is wild enough but to have this plot and include details about other planets and alien species is what makes this book stand out as a sci-f novel. And there is a fun romance plot throughout the novel that adds to the layers. The ending is ambiguous enough that even though Meyers doesn't seem inclined to write more books (like she has said she would) it doesn't feel unfinished. So yeah if you are interested in sci-fi and romance give it a shot.
