I'm ready to make some enemies with this blog post, so bring on the negative comments! :)Stephenie Meyer needs an editor who isn't afraid to say, "Hey! This is 200 pages too long--cut the crap!" I'm sorry. I just really don't enjoy reading Meyer's books. However, I'm thankful that she gets kids reading. This year I had almost every starter on the basketball team reading the Twilight series and I thought it was wonderful. But, whoa, her books bore me. I'm not a fan of soap operas. Ahhh, the drama! Will she or won't she? Which man will she choose? The host is Meyer's first adult book, although it could have been published as young adult. She's the queen of "clean" lit, and I admire her for that. At least there's a lot of kissing in this book, but it's still squeaky clean, and I'm not sure how that happens when there are thirty adults living underground together. But Melanie's body is invaded by the Wanderer. The Wanderer is an alien who survives by sucking into the brain of a host. But Melanie is strong and rebels, so there are two women inside the brain of one body. The Wanderer, or Wanda, gives into Melanie and they go find a group of rebel humans in the desert. Of course, the man drama is that Ian loves Wanda and Jared loves Melanie, but they are both in the same body. What to do?I knew I had to read this. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.

i like the host more than twilight saga. it was very amusing, not just a love story between vampire-human-werewolf with a little action. it was about humanity, and attitude towards other creatures.

This was one of my favorite books when it came out in 2008 and it’s still one of my favorite books in 2022. Stephanie Meyer does an amazing job at world-building, but even more, she does an impeccable job of making you feel for the characters and also realize what it is that makes you human. Truly a fantastic read.

I loved the book and can't wait to see the movie. I hope it holds true to the book. I really liked watching the characters develop.

It's not surprising, but satisfying, to know her other writing can be as good, and compelling, as her Twilight saga. I look forward to more by Stephenie Meyer.

I had high hopes for this book, but I really didn't get into it until almost 400 pages. I think a lot of the first half could have been left out and it would have still been okay. The last half was great, it was what I had been expecting from the book to begin with. I was really pleased with the end of the book.

This is a comfort re-read for me - it's a book I loved in  middle and high school. Definitely interesting to re-read as an adult, and I'll give it a 4.5/5 overall since I still love the premise and the story, but I can't ignore some of the controversial approaches to the treatment and characterization of women in this novel.

Actually quite a good book. I'm told it's about the size of a dictionary so I'm glad I went with the audiobook. There were some mildly annoying parts (the main character is exceedingly self sacrificing, though it makes sense in context) but overall it was good. I didn't have particularly high expectations but it exceeded them for sure.
