I enjoy this author's writing... the past mixed w/the present, just the right amount of description that I don't have questions or want to skip over anything, the storyline itself.

The Amalfi Curse follows the story of two women. One of the women, Mari, a witch of the sea, is alive in the 1820s, and she has to choose between leaving everything she knows behind for the sake of love or staying to protect those she was charged to take care of. The other woman, Haven, a nautical archaeologist, is alive in present day, and she has to overcome difficulties and think outside the box, when unforeseen circumstances leave her alone and unequipped to finally find out what her father left for her to discover after he died. Both of their stories are intertwined and take place in the small of village of Positano, along the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Witches, secrets, romance, and betrayal, the Amalfi Curse has it all.

I personally adored this entire book and the story Sarah Penner had to tell. I loved the portrayal of this small Italian village and how it changed from a fishing village where everyone knows everyone and protects each other in the 1820s, to a tourist hotspot in present day. I especially appreciated the love stories of both women, different in their own ways, but both relatable and heartwarming to read about. The entire story was filled with magic, and not just the literal kind, but also in the way the story was written, in the imagery, the characters, and even the cover art. Not many authors I’ve read from have been able to balance the art of true storytelling, world building, character development, and romance all in the same story, but Sarah Penner does it so well in this book. I was nervous near the end of the story, because I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out, whether it was going to be a happy or sad ending for either or both women. However, I will leave you to discover that for yourself, knowing that, in my opinion at least, it was worth the read.

I devoured this one. I loved everything about it, except for the fact that it had to end. I felt truly immersed in both timelines and loved every detail.
