There's something about a prince getting kidnapped and kept like treasure by a dragon that I cannot resist as long as it is written even halfway well and this is well written, so of course I was curled up in a big cushy chair blind to the world as I raced through the chapters without seeing the headings at all.

 Isn't this interesting?

Definitely didn't know something about a certain part of the dragon's anatomy. Until now.

It's an interesting story, I'll give you that. I would have liked an epilogue that shows what happened with Jade and Larkin. I mean, obviously we know. I meant after everything. After things have calmed down.

While it's a good story, I feel like there's something missing. Maybe it was moving a bit too fast, and I could have used more filler scenes. I can't quite put my finger on it.

My first book by this duo, and, well... even the authors individually.

I loved Jade so much. I mean, yeah... there is tons of non-con or dub-con, but I still loved Jade to bits. The way he constantly called Larkin his gem, treasure, jewel. It was really cute. And the way he just wanted to build the den for the two of them. CUTE! And a dragon who loves books? Sign me up!

Larkin... I did not like how he clearly cared for Jade, but tried to persuade himself that he was with him just for the sex. In retrospect, I think it makes sense... with the way the humans behave, how they are prudish, etc.

The abuse Larkin suffered really took me by surprise. It is on page and quite detailed. But all the villains are punished accordingly. Even if the biggest one is not.

The smut was hot, kinky, perfectly fitting the story.

Definitely read the warning on this one. TW: SA. The authors make it really clear that they don’t condone the actions taken in this book in real life.

So aside from that, this was actually quite a sweet and lovely story. Maybe a little Beauty and the Beast, Stockholm syndrome-y. It was well written, and I did like Larkin’s steadfast kindness and commitment to his duty to his people. I’d like to know more about Jade’s family and dragons in general.

The Dragon and His Prince is a delightful twist on a knight’s tale, as this prince sets off to slay the … wyvern, that ends up not being a wyvern after all, and is instead a dragon, who takes an interest in making the comely human his treasure.

There’s a lot to enjoy on this crazy dragon ride. Prince Larkin is adorably clueless but also irresistibly drawn to the dragon, Jade, who in his (mostly) human form has some rather … fascinating endowments. The start to their relationship is a bit dubious, as aphrodisiac saliva and other traits keep the prince in the dragon’s lair. But their interactions are filled with wry humor and eventually genuine affection. But when the fate of the kingdom is in question, will Larkin choose his duty over his dragon?

This is a quick-paced romance blended with some adventure and a few truly dark moments (be sure to read the CWs). I so enjoyed Larkin and Jade’s interactions, from their humorous debates on history and the smut that may or may not be involved with it, to their sweet exchanges of love, to their super hot and inventive sexy times. I freely admit that I’m a sucker for a great dragon romance, and this one fit the bill beautifully. This was my first read from these authors, but it definitely won’t be my last — this is book one in the Monster’s Pet series, and I can’t wait to see where they go next!

Forced submission training, my beloved dark trope.

Larkin is extremely naive to the point that it’s like his rose tinted glasses turn every red flag into just a flag. His rigid morality and intimacy issues are borderline autistic coded. The only thing missing is being too literal and having a weird relationship with food lol.

The story tries very hard to convince me that Real Feelings happened, and to a certain extent they did. But Larkin and Jade were never vulnerable with each other emotionally while bonding in the cave, so the ramp up to them being in Love felt a little artificial.

Regardless, it was an enjoyable read, and I’m suuuuper curious about the next book after that epilogue.

First thing's first, I want to say that I appreciate the forward written by the authors', as it describes exactly what you're going to get. The authors' are right: this is just fiction and they are exploring tropes and kinks within that medium. I am mentioning all of this to say that the dubcon, rape, etc. are not the reason for my rating.

The reason for my rating is that I find the book to be avergae. The Dragon and His Prince is not horrible, but it's not for me. Despite it's short length, it took me days to complete because I kept getting bored. And I even skipped and/or skimmed a good few chapters (you know the ones).
And I have to say, the whole "heal SA trauma with more sex" was a really weird choice that I don't agree with, despite the content warnings the authors' offered.

The writing style is not bad, though. If you know you like monster romances (and you've read the trigger warnings and are okay with them), then you should give this a go.

DNF - honestly neither of the characters felt like they had any depth or redeeming qualities somehow and I grew quickly bored of the barely-there plot
