Definitely a page turner, perhaps a tad predictable but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless!
I received an ARC copy from NetGalley. THIS was the book I've been waiting for. Psychological thrillers can become predicable, but THIS one was a surprise. Pretty Things is a tale of "who do you trust when you can't trust anyone." I loved the multiple points of view because it fleshed out the flaws and motives of both Nina and Vanessa. There were twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Great book. Highly recommended.

Probably the longest audiobook I’ve listened to, but SO GOOD!
Nina grew up moving around the country with her Grifter mom. In high school, she thinks she finds her way out in Lake Tahoe only to have everything ripped away when her wealthy boyfriend’s family chases them out of town. Nina goes on to live a meek legitimate life, until her mom ends up with a cancer diagnosis and no health insurance. Her mom connects her to a partner to work some cons with some rules: don’t be greedy and take only from those who can spare. When her mom’s cancer returns, Nina takes on one last big job, a sure thing, only things don’t go according to plan.
Great story… loved the characters… exciting and a great read.

Layers! Complexities! Intelligent villains you root for! Young love! Complicated Mother-Daughter relationships!
I have been so spoiled by good book picks lately. This one will go one of two ways: I’ll either forget the details in a few months and wonder why I gave 5 stars (I’ll chalk it up to being swept up in the thrill of bingeing a really good book). Or I will remember most details and agree that this was the best book I had read so far of 2020. It has really good competition - Dear Edward, The Hunting Party, Mr. Nobody - but the twists and turns of this book were different. It was a thriller but it was also deep. It was like Harlan Coben meets Tarryn Fisher. Or Tarryn Fisher meets Tarryn Fisher.

This was a page turner for me. While I sorta guessed the outcome it was a fun ride to get there. I really enjoyed that the story was told from two people’s vantage points and there would be overlap on the narrative so you could see what the other person was thinking during key parts of the story. There is a lot of conning that goes on in this book but I think the most interesting aspect of the story is how the characters end up conning themselves even. Fun read!
