One exciting thing I learned about this book after I finished it is that it has been optioned by Amazon for a series that Nicole Kidman is set to star in. I can see how this book will make a good series. This psychological thriller was a compulsive read full of lies, secrets, deceits and misdirection through unreliable narrating. The twists kept me going, and the book didn’t go in the direction I thought it was which was a plus.

i enjoyed this novel. the two POV characters are very different. one i immediately felt i understood, the other i immediately disliked. then i read deeper in and the characters revealed themselves further. each less and more trustworthy, each less and more vindictive. by the end of the book, i felt i’d run the gamut of emotions with each character. they both turned out to be nuanced, not entirely unlikable, but not entirely likable women. just like reality.

Read this book as so many folks recommended it - I thought it was overrated. While I finished it, I mostly skimmed the last 2/3's of the novel. The plot was interesting enough I wanted to know the end result but I didn't particularly like the characters, except for Benny. There are some interesting twists but overall I was bored.

This is a fun, immensely readable book, sprinkled with observations regarding sexism, classism, misogynism, and social media. I haven't read a thriller in a while and I enjoyed this, although parts of it were fairly predictable, and reminiscent of "The Talented Mr. Ripley." My big complaint regarding this was it was far too long. It did not need to be nearly 500 pages. 3.5 stars, rounded up.

Holy crap Pretty Things by Janelle Brown was a good one. I love a thriller and this one was just so good with plenty of twists and turns throughout the story. It starts off a little slow, and for most of the book, you are waiting for something to happen. Even with that, you still get really into the story and just keep reading. While the length of this one can be a bit daunting, the last 150 pages or so are totally worth it.

(Audio version) Pretty Things was excellent. I didn’t know what to expect, and the author kept me in suspense the entire book. The characters were well-developed, and I loved hearing the perspectives of both women. At times, I wanted to dislike one character- and then I would feel bad for her a bit later. The descriptions were vivid, and could imagine myself there witnessing the story twist and unfold. I highly recommend if you enjoy psychological thriller novels.
