I got maybe 70 pages in and it was terrible. I've vowed to not waste any more of my time on books I can't get into. Maybe I'll try again in the future? Probably not.

Good book. There were a couple of directions the author could have gone and I guess the one she chose got a little tiresome for me, but it was good. The author connected the story pieces well.

I was really disappointed by this book because it started off so good! The book really drags on for way too long though. The story is told from two perspectives: Nina’s and Vanessa’s. Nina is interesting and likable, and even though she does bad things, she is ultimately a good person. Vanessa on the other hand is incredibly annoying, shallow and unlikable. Because half of the story is told through her perspective, it was really difficult for me to finish this book.

I like shit like this, but the execution was bad. Did the end save it? Moved it from 2 to 3 stars

2.5- second half was enjoyable enough, but overall the book was way too long and hard to get into.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review. I had read Brown's previous book Watch Me Disappear. Pretty Things will BLOW YOU AWAY. First off, please note the length of this book at 496 pages. Admittedly most of the books I read are around 300-400 pages, so perhaps a little daunting to a reader. However, the plot moves at a very good pace, so it doesn't feel dragged out, slow or too wordy.

Brown spends her time introducing us to Nina Ross, who is decidedly of the "have nots". Her nomadic growing up with her mom as a grifter and opportunist lead her to her current lifestyle of Robin Hood eque cons with her shady boyfriend Lachlan. Nina is between marks when she sets her sights on Vanessa Liebling, an Instagram influencer who she has a personal history with, as she "dated" her little brother Benny. The book mosts between past and present seamlessly, gathering suspense as she brings her alter ego Ashley to get access to a safe at the Liebling family "home" where she recalls the password and the million dollars cash. Then we get Vanessa's point of view and back and forth gradually as we see what each really knows about the other until you aren't sure who is playing who. (Whom?) The ending with some surprises as to betrayal and alliances is brilliant. Not once did I feel like I wanted the book to end. I highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The story had a lot of twists and turns. I noticed in one of the reviews here that this may be made into a series with Nicole Kidman. If true it will be a great show. Can’t wait

It is more a 4 1/2 than a 5, but I didn’t feel like removing a star for 1/2 of it. Anyway, it could be a 5 if it was a lesbian plot :P

I liked all the twists and surprises. It is a good book, those that you want to read as fast as possible because you need to know what happens next.
