This book just made my emotions run the gamut. The title character, Alone, is a man that finds himself isolated in the lighthouse in which he was born long after his parents have died. The captain of the Dahlia promised his father he would drop off supplies for the man each month and he has done so for years. The captain has a newly hired deckhand that begins to question the isolated life that Alone has lived.
In the lighthouse, Alone has a dictionary as a connection to the outside world. He drops the dictionary on his desk and reads words and their definition and then gets lost in his imagination. This is the only way Alone interacts with the world. As the story progresses, we begin to learn that perhaps the connection is precarious and Alone may want more.
The illustrations are well done. Close ups and landscapes and storyboards that are all evocative of life in isolation.
I have already requested Chaboute's [b:The Park Bench|32951507|The Park Bench|Christophe Chabouté|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1499336598l/32951507._SX50_.jpg|53580167].
