Despite having mixed results with Sarah Pinborough’s previous novels, Dead to Her was one of the books I was most excited to pick up in 2020. And I’m glad that I did!

The blurb for this book isn’t exactly misleading, but it left me with a certain expectation that was different from the story that was actually told. Oftentimes this is a recipe for disaster. In this particular case, I didn’t mind. And I think it’s because I enjoy the author’s writing style so much. Pinborough writes her characters’ thoughts and feelings In a way that sucks the reader in completely. Each time I closed the book I had to remind myself that this crazy story was not my life.

With a twisted and unexpected plot, Dead to Her is full of drama, secrets, and lies. Readers who don’t mind having to suspend disbelief in their thrillers might enjoy this. Those who prefer more realistic scenarios may want to look elsewhere.

It not for everyone but it was for me. I love the dark and unlike able characters. I really enjoyed Keisha, and how she brought in the element of juju into a white upper-class setting.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I liked it.

I think that Sarah Pinborough may not be the author for me. All of her books that I have read, including Dead to Her, have been just okay and I'm always left wanting more.
