Not a whodunnit, more of a crime caper. I've enjoyed a number of Kate Atkinson's novel but this is the first of the Jackson Brodie's that I've read. It didn't grab me and I wasn't itching to know what would happen next. A bit "meh". But there were some funny lines.
A good, solid, well-crafted tale that brings in-depth characters together. Jackson Brodie was only a partial player here, but it worked. Glad Julia is out of the picture too. A few too many plot “coincidences”, but a fun read. 3.75
I had no idea this was the second of four books with Jackson Brodie as the protagonist...whether this is a good or bad thing, I'm not sure. It was a decent enough read, but I felt it was too bitty, a bit long-winded and I didn't really care about what actually happened in the end! On saying that, I did like most of the characters and would enjoyed the banter between Brodie and Detective Munro.

Kate Atkinson has become one of my favorite British authors with this second book in the Jackson Brodie series. At first there seem to be too many really separate characters to keep track of which normally would be offputting to me, but steadily she weaves their experiences together so subtlely and masterfully that you can't help but admire her skill. This is a literary page turner meaning it is not a quick read, but still a book where you want to see what happens next. Some of the text contains words that eluded me (a wordsmith) which would make this a great ebook so you can look up a few meanings on the spot. Excellent writing and story.

Good storyline, audiobook okay. Could have done without the theatrical music between chapters. Wanted to check out more Jackson Brodie and in the mood for a mystery, and Kate Atkinson delivered

I've clearly read this before and recently but it's not listed on GRs so not sure if I just forgot to add it. Still, Kate Atkinson is always worth reading and this is a wonderfully constructed whodunnit (kind of) with a broad cast who are all connected in an increasingly convoluted way. She shines in setting up the inner lives and voices of the characters and it's much more about them than the events of plot, though Brodie is a delight. It's very funny too and I was frequently smiling and giggling as I listened. Great stuff.
