A girl, a train, a question. Plath was a literary Goddess.

interesting insight into death and escaping an endless spiral of guilt that comes with self-loathing. sad to analyse that both this book and The Bell Jar had uplifting endings when Plath herself didn’t. i liked that there was no clear insight into what the topic was about and is really up to interpretation.

So this is just a short story - it's 40 pages and really would be about half that if a regular font size and standard margins were used. The copy I read is priced at ten dollars - that is steep for a short story. This should just be added to some of Plath's collected works. It is not a bad story, but it is a short story written while she was still in college and it shows. There is too much implied information and forced mysteriousness to ever gain the reader's interest. And then, just when action may pick up, it is all over - because it is a short story. It is interesting simply because so little of Plath's fiction writing exists, but otherwise would be easily forgotten.

A quick and exciting read. Amazing to see how Plath’s voice developed.

An intriguing short story, open to interpretation, highly symbolic and dark.
