This isn't really a review, more just a brain dump after reading.
How I do struggle to read Shakespearean language but enjoy the stories. (Granted I'm not as terrible at translating as I think I am but still have to be accompanied by SparkNotes to make sure). Of course what also helps me to read the book? Having grown up watching She's the Man and knowing it's inspired by this play.
In this edition of the play, I think the illustrations confused me more, to be honest, but I did enjoy them.

Yes I’m being so annoying and adding books that I’ve read at school. Yes I didn’t like it as much because the characters were forced to be gay. I’ll forgive Shakespeare if he ever wrote a gay sequel where Orsino is a stripper :)
I haven't read a ton of Shakespeare in my life but I'm hoping to remedy that in the coming years and so I decided to pick up Twelfth Night from the local bookstore a couple of weeks ago. I'll admit that after each scene of each act I loaded up my translation from SparkNotes just to make sure that I understood everything that was happening in this play. Regardless of how wonderful of a write Shakespeare is, it was very easy to nod off when you had to analyze the words of the play so carefully as the language was so unlike today's language.
Regardless, this was a fun little story with a lot of mixups and I'll definitely be interested in checking out a stage production of this whether in real life or if I can find one on youtube. The characters fell a bit flat for me, which seems normal considering it seems the actors are the ones who really bring it to life and for such a short time frame it is hard to get a real sense of the characters involved.
I thought it was hilarious that there were constant love triangles happening and yet they were all so oblivious to them. I felt the ending wrapped up a bit too quick for my liking and despite how much they all despised Malvolio, I thought his treatment was too rough for his character and downright mean. Wouldn't suggest this to someone just picking up Shakespeare but it was a lot more fun than I anticipated.

One of my favourite Shakespeare plays. Gender bending is always fun even though the characters have an almost absurd idea of how love works. I've never seen so many people fall in love so quickly. :p

I usually don’t overlook insta-love and this is literally the definition of it but it’s okay because it’s Shakespeare ✨
