Really funny, clever book. I laughed out loud a great deal. Lent to me by Jeff Braden.

This was a light, fun book.
One thing I found interesting was the power of one radio show to affect the author's journey. I wonder if he would've taken that approach or if social media would replace that role.

It couldn't have been a more perfect time to read this. Being stuck in lockdown, it was nice to read about a man who travelled a whole country. But even better it was a good laugh and a funny story about a guy doing something just for the hell of it!

So this is a rather unusual and quirky read, based on Hawks’ real adventures round Ireland, with said fridge (apparently named Saiorse Malloy, which can be both male and female as he wasn’t able to distinguish the sex due to a lack of donkeys - if you have to ask, you’ll need to read it!) following a bet with his friend. You follow Hawks as he mostly wings it; meeting good, honest people across Ireland (including the poorest king in the world) and basking in their kindness and determination to help him on his way. I lose my way a bit towards the end, but I found it rather touching how attached he became towards Saiorse.

3.5. I loved the premise of the story but at times it became tedious. Hitchhiking can be boring in real time, and that translates to the page without much fanfare. Overall a fun read and I loved the message, but it definitely took a lot of mental focus.
