This was ok. Info can be interesting but repetitive. Actual photos vs drawings would be more helpful. I doubt it’s comprehensive on dangerous plants so in that case a focus on a narrative would have been preferable for me.

note to self: always wear gloves when gardening. maybe put poison control on speed dial.

and, of course, the obvious - don't eat anything you're unsure of.

not really a book to "read through", but one for casual reading. perfect for the bathroom.

it was surprising to read about all the common plants that can cause seizures, coma and death, in addition to irritating rashes. i started to freak out a little, but then realized that much of it was common sense.

This is probably better as a gardener's actual guide, rather than an audiobook, but it was peppered with enough anecdotes to keep it interesting. Went by super fast!

Based on the title and description, I was expecting this book to be stories of how plants had dire effects in historical contexts. In reality, it's a list of plants with descriptions and symptoms. There were a few references to chemical warfare and yes, a couple of sentences about Lincoln's mom but this really wasn't the book I was looking for.
The illustrations, while lovely and inventive, are minimal and few and far between so I did have to frequently stop reading and turn to google to figure out what a plant looks like.
That being said, it did get across how we underestimate the dangers which could be posed by the plants around us through to me right in the introduction. Just a couple weeks before I checked this book out from the library, I had picked up moonflower seeds on a whim. Big white flower on the front of the packet sitting right by the store register, just 20 cents! I won't be growing them.

Fun beautifully illustrated little jaunt about poisonous and dangerous plants, if a bit sensational at times. Good for a reading slump
