I enjoyed this continuation of Mickey 7’s story, but it’s hard to follow the clever first installment with something quite as good.  Some of my favorite characters appear again—Mickey 7, Nasha, and Berto—and we get to know some other characters, as well.

Set two years after the end of MICKEY7, ANTIMATTER BLUES features Mickey’s task of locating the antimatter bomb that he hid in the first book to save the colony.  The problem is, the bomb is no longer where he buried it.  He has to join forces with the alien creepers to locate the bomb, which sounds easier than it really is.

I enjoyed the evolution of Mickey’s character.  He’s become more thoughtful, complex, and still, just plain lucky.  Berto continues to provide his occasional genius and frequent comedic relief, with fierce Nasha at their side.

While this one had a clear conclusion, there’s an opening for a continuation of their story.  I would definitely read it!

3.5 Stars ⭐️. I enjoyed this one slightly more than Mickey7. More action, more politics, and higher stakes. Love the addition of new characters; especially Speaker.

I wish Speaker had eaten them

Mickey7 was much more about Mickey's narrative, but this is more linear storytelling, which simply wasn't as interesting.

I did enjoy the relationship with Speaker a lot, but most of the characters got really annoying in the middle section of the book.
