Just wasn’t in the right headspace to read this at the moment. Will pick up eventually.

Not a cohesive narrative-the chapters feel very independent of each other-but a well written, interesting book with some substantial insights at times. The chapter on Yom Hashoah was particularly worthwhile, presenting an important question of whether, how, and when to ritualize the memorialization of the Shoah. Comparisons to Passover were thought provoking and something I imagine I will pondering for quite some time now.

The emphasis was on the "my" year, as opposed to the Jewish year.

Quite informative and well written but incredibly hypocritical in regard to Zionism and the humanity of the Palestinian people. It is hard to understand Pogrebin's love for social justice when she denies the personhood of Palestinian people. She should listen to the teachings of Akita more closely.

I liked it, I enjoyed her writing style and she's honest and genuine. It felt a little long though, I started losing interest about 75% through it.
