It was a easy and OK read, a good Arabian Night's retelling. The characters weren't the most likeable and memorable, but my expectations were low.
If you want to read something no so complicated, more or less entertaining and with fae, you should read it.

DNF @ 23%. I really tried to give this book a chance, especially for the plot twists mentioned by other reviews. The plot had so much potential but instead the writing was so hard to follow. Grammar was horrible with tons of run on sentences. Ideas felt jumbled and incoherent. Characters backgrounds described were so contradictory and made zero sense.

The description of Naenden and it’s people, fae and human alike, made me picturing an ancient realm taking place thousands of years ago. Not a modern age at all. Yet Princess Lydia is described as wearing stilettos the first time Asha meets her?

Also, Asha talks about how uneducated she is as humans only receive 3 years of education yet she appears too educated for that idea to even make sense. She did not know the names of most flowers like tulips, but knew colors like fuchsia and cerulean and says words like “assuage”? She is so uneducated yet she can read a book titled “A History of Earth: Prefaeistic Era” she describes as “gargantuan”? Make it make sense.

The descriptions of King Kiran, or lack thereof, really bothered me. It takes 140 pages to even find out he has a beard and that’s almost all we know about what he looks like physically up to that point. But we know so much detail about Asha’s appearance starting from the first pages. Or he is supposedly so cruel he would “decree the demise of his innocent citizens on a whim” yet in the same exact page he’s described sitting cross-legged on the floor to listen to Asha’s story. In what world would a king who uses his fire magic to burn every person who betrays him would sit cross legged around a fire to hear a story. His human queen committed treason leading him to believe that all humans lie, believing they need to be punished. So Asha is going to be executed by his hand to save humankind yet within 24 hours of her being Queen, Asha describes him as acting chivalrous towards her? Again, MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!

Will not be finishing the series

Involved and lengthy, but nice. Could probably have done without the tons and tons and chapters and chapters of introspection in her head that we got, but still a good book.

This book was slow in the beginning. I almost dnf’d it, but I am so glad that I didn’t. The plot was fantastic! The twists and turns gave me whiplash. What a great roller coaster ride!
