The ending was when the story finally started getting good. Hard to fall for the main relationship, even the main character to be honest. Her sister pov would seem more intriguing.
This was a chore to get through. Idk why I bought so many random fantasy books on audio—especially this one where I didn’t know the narrator and thought she was just okay.
Idk. This book. I mean I finished. There were parts I felt had potential. I didn’t hate it. But I was never overly invested and didn’t really care about the outcome. If there are more, I don’t predict I’ll pick them up.
Also. One of my pet peeves is when there are two POVs, usually a guy and a girl, and the guy has WAY LESS chapters from his POV and they don’t really add to the story. This was a prime example of that. Kieran’s chapters were mostly recaps of Asha’s chapters. There was maybe one chapter that added anything useful. And there were only a handful all in. I just didn’t see the point.
Read or don’t. But maybe pick up the physical or digital copy. I don’t really recommend the audio.

I devoured this book.
I don’t think I’ve read a book with a romance where the heroine is disfigured and doesn’t follow the ugly duckling formula, it was so refreshing.
But more than that, I love the characters, the complexity, the discussion of class and power. And so many twists and turns!
I cannot wait to read the sequel in 2023, heartily recommend.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It kept me captive and I liked seeing things unfold.
So. It took me almost a month to finish this one. It was. Bit of a slow build for me, and idk why but I expected a bit more spice. The main character kinda bugged me, but some of the twists in the stores really for me.
I will probably be reading the next two when they come out because I have some questions that I hope are answered. I’m hoping the story progresses faster and I’m able to buy into it quicker.

I really liked the world-building and the overall plot. Some twists you could guess but others you couldn't. There was really no place (plot-wise) that I felt bored with the story. However, the relationship growth between Asha and Kiran felt very underdeveloped and lackluster. Their relationship development made no sense. There were little-to-no romantic, flirting, bantering etc. moments between the two, yet suddenly there were in love with each other. A part from the Old Magic story sharing moments, I don't think they had more than 5 conversations with each other. While the romance wasn't all there, I would definitely still recommend the book for it's fantasy aspect, and am looking forward to starting the rest of the books in the series.
This book is written in the classic epic style. Engaging and simply beautiful storytelling. I usually read more explicit romance but still highly recommend this tale.
Suitable for younger audiences but because of the deeper themes, I'd categorize it as adult fiction.
The writing is incredible and I love how the perspectives switch between the present and the story the parasite tells. It's a story within a story that explains the parasite's existence and sets up the following books.
Emotional, hearth wrenching, and a joy to read

The plot twists!!!
I loved this book so much. The characters, the plot, everything was pure perfection. I loved the slow burn romance between Asha and Kieran. It made their romance very believable. Highly recommend reading this book

This felt like a semi typical fearie book with a more likable main character. It wasn't bad at all. Just didn't feel unique.
Also, the tension between the characters was hot. However, they never had sex. All this talk of how large the guy is and how hot (literally) he is, and there was never any moment when it came to fruition.

What a long book. There was so much in here. I loved it all. I don't know what to make of the ending. Perhaps book 2 will clear things up.
If you are looking for romance in a book, you might steer clear of this one. It made for an intriguing story, but the romance was almost nonexistent. It was a slow...slow....slow burn. And only consisted of a few pages. It was a bit of a let down.
The retelling was VERY loosely based on the original story 1001 nights, but it was done well. I loved the twist on it.
