I don't know how to rate this book.
Should I give if five stars so people know I recommend it?
I feel bad giving a rating to an experience so raw.
What happened to this girl's is simply awful. Can't be put into words. Please know that this is a really painful read. It will stay with me for a long, long time.
How can a person be so rotten inside? We will never know. I feel so bad knowing she was released from jail. Justice wasn't served enough.
Please read this. Even tho it's hard, the sisters deserve their story to be known.
This book was so well written, it felt like fiction. I wish it was fiction.

I was almost afraid to read this once I realized it was a true story. It was dark, heartbreaking, and shocking. Much like a train wreck, you can't look away....

Read it but be warned this is not pleasant read.
A very hard book to read I needed a day or two with out it just so I can relax and not be present for the abuse these poor girls went through. I would definitely recommend reading it because just by knowing this story people may see signs of abuse in their own family or their neighbors.

Wow. Ok, first things first - I was a little nervous about the format of this book, being a true story written by a 3rd party. Especially once I started listening, being 100% 3rd person POV, I thought I was going to hate it (my fav format is dual pov, or at least something written in the 1st person). But I surprising it really liked it. It's kind of like a Netflix documentary without the video part, just the audio. Like an extra long podcast episode if you will. I feel like the author did a fantastic job piecing together the information from god knows how many sources into a very fluid, easy to follow timeline. It did, at the very end, jump back in time, but just to uncover some answers about something that wasn't already discussed in much detail that I personally was very curious about. I'm glad there are very minimal points that were left unanswered, and those that were left unanswered aren't by any means that important to the baseline of the story.
Now, let's get on with the hard part, shall we? What the actual fuck did I just read? The atrocious things this woman did to Kathy, to Ron, to her very own children? The way she got away with the slow, agonizing murder of Kathy for the longest time, and then did it AGAIN with Ron? I get that she was not mentally sound, and apparently still is not if just before her release she was talking about how she still doesn't think she did anything wrong. But what I do not get is how someone could be so unstable that they can watch their literal best friend slowly wither away to nothing and die. AND THEN, act like it never happened and make up stories about how she ran off with a trucker to explore the country. After hearing everything she did I am shocked and appalled that she was granted early release. This kind of abuse and torture is what should land you in prison until your last breath.
Anyways, just a really great book, I highly recommend to anyone. Just be aware that it is very very dark and will probably get a rise out of your emotions.
