**Audiobook**
Sports romances are my absolute favorite genre. Especially when it comes to hockey, even though I have NO IDEA how the game is played. I am not sure what my fascination is. Maybe because it was the first romance novel I read?..

This one was eh. It wasn't the best, but it also wasn't the worse one I've read (or listened too). I really liked Miranda and Jake. I think the way they got together was cute I guess. This hockey player maid was a first for me.

I just wish there was something more. Its not even the fact it was low drama, which honestly I enjoyed that part. I just think some things were rushed or the segue to it had me here like. Now I am in no way an author, but it could have been GREAT. One example has to be him talking about his past.. idk. However, I did appreciate the way that the author displayed time in it. This book didn't happen all in one week like many others. Their relationship developed over time without having the obvious "two weeks later" in the beginning of a chapter.

Even though I liked, but didn't love this book. I am willing to give some of the others a shot. I will go back and take a peak at some soon..

I am reviewing this book based on an ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.
I really liked the writing style of this book and the characters were great. It was not a five star for me only because I felt like the levels of compassion the characters offered was far too uneven and it irked me. I would read more from this author.

This book was amazing. It’s a new adult hockey book which is my favorite, but it also had an amazing sister bond, close families, and dealt with how people deal with loss. Because of all those things it’s 5 stars for me instead of 4.
Going to list the downside first: This was definitely predictable. It progresses just like you would expect, considering the storyline.
And now what I liked: Pretty much everything else. Jake's backstory was well done (very emotional, much sad), and Miranda herself was a strong, driven character - which I always love.

“When I’m with you, everything else melts away. I don’t obsess about hockey or get irritated by anything. There’s just you, and that gorgeous smile I’m hooked on.”
I am disappointed that this book wasn't as hot as the cover. Hahahaha.
This was an enjoyable romance read.
Why do sports romance the hero always has to be asshole most of the time.
I hate it but I like it you know.
Hooked was very predictable but still very entertaining.
I enjoyed the humour part of the book so much.
The romance was so sweet and heartwarming.
I think I said awww too much.
I wanted more of side characters honestly, I think it could have been more fun.
We all know what was going to happen.
We were all just waiting for the CLIMAX to happen.
When it happen, I was honestly meh about it.
I wish the plotline was more dramatic you know.
After the issue happen, I felt like everything went by so fast after that and the book was just wrapping things up to bid farewell.
However, I still did enjoy the read and would read more of Brenda's work.

Not sure if I'm just not in the mood for a "steamy" read, but I could not for the life of me get into the writing or the storyline. The thought of wanting to finish this book felt like a chore.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Miranda Carr is stretching herself thin. She may also give a few readers a wakeup call on how those people with thankless jobs are looked at and treated. Jake Birch is having a really bad day. It’s interesting to see his rituals that he has as part of his job. He also seems to be a man who takes women for granted. One word that I think of while reading about Jake is “swagger”. One thing that fascinate me about Miranda was that she wasn’t immediately impressed by his “charm”.
Miranda is a young woman with goals that she wants to achieve. She’s like a lot of people who have made personal sacrifices in order to accomplish their long term goals. Jake is a man who is kinda there but maybe his ego gets in his way sometimes. Is he a man who believes in his own press? Or is he a man whose outward persona doesn’t match what is actually on the inside? Will that persona keep him from finding happiness? Maybe he’s something of a jerk – just a little bit?
I loved to see how these two characters seemed to “dance” around each other for a while – building tension as the story progresses. You find yourself waiting for Jake’s other shoe to drop and to see what the backlash will be. Coming to love Miranda’s character, sometimes you have to wonder if she could do better. But this just makes for a good author – she takes the time to get us invested in the characters she has created and we won’t settle for anything less than a happy ending. I so look forward to seeing what I’m going to enjoy next from Ms. Rothert.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Brenda Rothert has proven time and again that she knows how to write a hot hockey story. Alpha heroes, heroines that range from broken to strong and sassy, and always a love of the game, her books never disappoint.
HOOKED is Brenda's newest book and, while all of the usual suspects are here, there is something more, too. Jake Birch is just as alpha, just as hot, and, like other of Brenda's guys, he's got baggage. Gutted by the loss of his brother, he's cut himself off emotionally from everyone and everything, interested only in scoring, both on and off the ice. Finding himself falling for the strong, sassy, take no crap woman cleaning his room at his 5-star hotel is not on his radar. But, fall he does, because he truly has never met anyone like Miranda Carr.
Miranda is one of my favorite of Brenda's ladies yet, and another solid example of how she continues to grow at her craft. Sure, Miranda's suffered infidelity and heartbreak like the rest of us, but she's strong. A great family life, really smart, hardworking, and savvy, she doesn't need to rely on anyone to complete her. But what made HOOKED such an enjoyable read is the way that she and Jake do come to realize that it's okay to have a soft place to land, that it's good not to have to take life on on your own. And, another kudo to Brenda for not having the relatively speedy progression of their relationship result in insta-sex. It's really nice to see a strong, sexy guy that literally has ladies throwing their panties at him to want to take things more slowly and wait and build a solid emotional relationship.
So, my take? HOOKED is everything that I've come to expect from one of Brenda's books, and more. An easy and engaging read that tugs on the heartstrings and steams up the windows, it's 4.5 sexy, emotional, HEA stars, and I'm happy to add it to my list of books that you should read.

It takes a lot for Miranda Carr to balance between studying in College and working two jobs as a hotel housekeeper by day and a bartender at night at the same time. Despite financially struggling, she's optimistic and industrious. She dreams to have a luxurious life and she'll not stop working until she reach her goal. Having a relationship isn't her priority .. at the moment.
Jake Birch is a rich, famous, cocky, and pompous NHL player. While staying on the hotel suite, he's fascinated with Miranda when she called him out about his rudeness. Since then, he requested the hotel management that she's the only one who can clean his room and gets to know her more during their encounters. Their conversations are interesting, witty and sweet, he finds Miranda beautiful inside and out. He worked his way to date her by being charming, nice and thoughtful. It was genuine and he intends to keep her. He just needs to be more open about his own issues and feelings.
Hooked is an addictive and sweet sports romance novel and I'm too hooked to put it down. The characters and their relationship are well developed, the story and little drama is entertaining and the romantic scenes are red-hot. I haven't read anything by Brenda Rothert and I like her writing style. Surely, I'm going to read more of her novels.
