Get this book!! It's sweet and a little bit dirty. It's got banter, drama, emotions, and a brooding and moody hero to boot.

This story is about Jake. He's a successful hockey player. He's the Captain of his team and he's dealing with some emotional demons that usually have him acting as more of an A-hole than a gentleman. The heroine is Miranda, a young woman who's working two jobs to make ends meet while putting herself through Business school. She's been burned one too many times and has all but lost faith in mankind.

These characters became friends before becoming lovers. They instinctually knew that this time was different. That their time together was special. And I found the evolution of their relationship beautiful. The author did a great job of throwing in a real wacko to stir the pot, but overall, this story was low on angst and the emphasis was placed on the connection between the characters.

I recommend this story to anyone looking for a sweet and sexy sports romance!

Release Day: December 6, 2016

Really enjoyed this book, yet another well done hockey book by this author. The characters are interesting, the storyline is different and well plotted. You root for both main characters. I enjoyed the emotion driven character development as well as the hockey action, though of course there can always be more of that! Strongly recommend.

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Hooked is an adult contemporary sports romance by author Brenda Rothert. I love a good sports romance but the tag line for this book is what hooked me in. ;) "a sultry novel featuring a brooding NHL player who’s hell on skates—and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act." I love a good brooding male character and a no nonsense woman. Hooked was right up my alley for a good whipping into shape romance. I got such a kick out of Miranda and Jake. Jake needed a Miranda in his life badly. Hooked is the first book I have read by Brenda, but it certainly will not be the last. I really liked Hooked.

Miranda made me snort, laugh out loud and chuckle non-stop throughout Hooked. I just loved her quick comebacks. She seemed to be the only one to knock Jake off his game. And he desperately needed that in his life. He was quick on his way to being a jerkwad, and we can't have that. With Miranda's help be became the swoony great guy that I knew he could be. I loved the witty dialogue and banter between Jake and Miranda most. It was my favorite park of Hooked.

Not only does Hooked have excellent character chemistry, and a steamy swoonworthy romance full of tons of great banter, but it also have a really great character development journey for Jake. I loved that. Yes, there is a drama, flirting and tons of romance, but there is a also some really excellent growth on his part. And that was a really nice bonus. I think this is a must read for fans of hockey romances. Miranda will make you laugh when she puts Jake in his place time and time again, and Jake will win your heart- even if you don't think he will initially. Hooked really impressed me. I can't wait to read more by Brenda Rothert.

This was surprisingly a pleasant read, I really liked it. Jake had his diva moments, but I liked how Miranda didn't take any of his bullshit. I thought it was adorable how he has pre-game rituals/superstitions. I do appreciate the how they took their time in developing a friendship instead of jumping right into a relationship. Patience is always a virtue and I admired how Jake respects her enough to wait it out. I didn't care much about Jake's personal demons, I just thought that all that bitterness and regret was unnecessarily prolonged. Also, I'm a little disappointed Miranda never owned up to ruining Jake's white dress shirt! I would have liked to see Jake's reaction to that. LOL. Overall, I like it a lot and would definitely read more of the author's work!

It's 4:50AM and I've hit the snooze button twice, I should get up to work out but I'm tired. Why? Let's see, I picked up this gem from author Brenda Rothert at 6:45pm the night before and...
COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN.
I love a storyline where I can relate to the characters and become completely invested in the outcome of their HEA. Jake and Miranda were perfect for my fluffy, sentimental heart. Really, I couldn't find fault in this story. So here's where I wax on poetic about why it was perfect for me (and for you because you are reading my review):

It's a sports romance - most importantly a hockey one. Who doesn't love a hot, professional athlete? Hello... welcome Mr. Birch to the red line. Hotty Captain guaranteed to steal your heart and leave you breathless without leaving the line. Now, do you have to be a hockey fanatic to love this book? Nope. One thing I loved about Ms. Rothert's story is she didn't dwell on the game play but more of the OCD rituals all professional athletes have. Hockey is well know for the 'playoff beard'. But she went a few steps further to get into the head of Jake by giving the read insight to his rituals. When you play at a high level professionally, you do anything to make yourself better than the man in skates across from you. Ms. Rothert used this for the reader to see past the arrogance and into the human insecurities.

Miranda and Jake were completely relate-able as a burgeoning couple. Miranda is down to earth, knows what she wants and the effort to make it there without looking cold or extremely guarded. She wants to make her way and wants to own those pride bolstering moments. She doesn't get mired in her past or how she is 'lesser'. She gives Jake honest and openness he's lacked before. And Jake - is he an arrogant, player? Of course he is. But Miranda gets beneath the 'showman' and shows him what a genuine relationship can bring. To be honest, I haven't felt this invested in characters in a sports romance since Ryker by Sawyer Bennett. (Close your shocked face. Yep, those who know me know how I feel about Ryker & Gray - this couple has joined their ranks).

And - Yay for storyline that moved and didn't get mired in the angst!! Did they have a few hurtles to overcome? Yes. But by goodness they handled it like adults. A win for us angst for drama sake haters. (that would be me)

If you've never Brenda Rothert before, this is an EXCELLENT start to getting to know her writing talent. If you've read her novels, this one is a sure fire win and you want to include it in your collection. 5+ out of 5 stars

A quick, pretty fun read. On a personal note, present tense, first person perspective is one of my least favorites. And I wanted there to be more hockey! I thought the plot was a little overwrought at times, trying to create tension in a pretty foregone conclusion, and I didn't especially feel connected with either Jake or Miranda. It was cute, though.

I am reviewing this book based on an ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

I really liked the writing style of this book and the characters were great. It was not a five star for me only because I felt like the levels of compassion the characters offered was far too uneven and it irked me. I would read more from this author.

This one surprised me.

I think I started it once and never finished as the begining was very familiar.

I really like Miranda and Jake. I especially like Jake's vunnerabilty and that he was the typical jock who was a jerk to his girl. I found him sort of sweet and I kind of wished the book was longer.

I got this out from my Libby app through the library - I am going to look for more books by this author
