Lestat is the #1 DIVA💜 Honestly, this book was so much more than I expected. It was so captivating and immersive. The attention to details made it feel like reading a history book rather than fiction. It was the PERF amount of mystery and violence, evoking massive curiosity within my imagination. I am glad to have decided to read this book.

This was a reread for me, and to this day remains one of my favourite novels. I had recently finished reading one of Rice’s other novels “The Wolves of Midwinter” and decided a look back on This series.

I had decided to read Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned after Reading some comments on the review for the film adaptation, as the film was a favourite of mine growing up(More on this in the review of that book). The jest of which was when compared to the book the film adaptation was comparable to the substance left by the neighbour’s dog on ones lawn. I wanted to give the film the benefit of the doubt as again there was a bias there. I set out to read Queen of the Damned, but felt that if I really wanted to understand the contempt these people felt towards the film I had to start from the beginning. I had listened to the audiobook for Interview and from what I could recall wasn’t exactly critical to book 3 so I started here at The Vampire Lestat.

This was my introduction to what I call “Adult Fiction” as prior to this I had only read “required” readings for school, and only read excerpts from them never actually reading the full book hence the quotations around the word required. If it wasn’t that I had also only previously read the Harry Potter series. Anne Rice doesn’t expressly state that Lestat is in love with Nicky, Gabrielle and the other characters. It is truly up to how the reader wishes to interpret the love Lestat feels for them.

FINE. i'll read queen of the damned

3.5 ⭐️ I didn't love this as much as the first one however, the world building is actually insane. I also still loved this book i just felt it was more draggy than the last one and usually i'm not too mad about that, i was just a little bored at times. Maybe too, i just wasn't in the best mood to read this book at this time. As time goes on, my feelings may change. I am really excited about all this lore drop we're getting and how these next books are gonna progress the story. I'm assuming bc there are so many, that some of them may be from the past as well, but we'll see!

The Vampire Lestat put An Interview With A Vampire to shame.

Lestat is a dynamic and turbulent character that commands the reader's attention. His perspectives on morality, immortality and nihilism are as intricate as they are insightful.

The text, as with many of Rice's novels, is rather slow. In many segments I found myself wading through trivial details hedging towards a plot point, yet skirting around any real developments.
