An excellent start to a dark series filled with strong twists, relatable characters, and good writing. I found the premise thrilling, the characters engaging, the dialogue excellent and the visuals simply brilliant.

Psychological horror with a great premise
What a brilliant premise! Really makes you think a lot about the rules of the world and what's real and what isn't.
The middle was a bit slow as they acclimate to their life. It focuses more on the chracters with smaller bits of info but, for a limited series, I thought we'd be further along. I'm sure the last 6 issues will be chock full of twists and more weirdness.
I really like the characters even though they're narcissists. The flash backs through the eyes of the different characters is especially cool. Wish there were more of those, weirdly enough. I think the hints of the future within them really help.
I both hesitate to read on now that the very end of this story sort of pulls the rug from under you but also wish I could finish the whole story now to know how it all ends.

When I first read this I gave it 4 stars but after thinking about it for a few weeks I think I'm going to bump it up to five because it really is a very unique and interesting concept, it's just not what I was expecting from the description and therefore made me feel kind of disappointed in the moment. The description makes it seem like it will be a fairly classic group of friends at a lake house slasher type horror story but it's WAY more sci-fi than horror and while I think that definitely makes it stand out more, if you're going into this wanting something more simple and to the point you're going to understandably feel a bit off about it. I'll definitely be continuing with the series because it really picked up towards the end especially but just be aware going into it that it's a genre mash-up and definitely not what you're expecting.

I bought this book without knowing anything about it, based of the strength of the cover and title of the sequel series, which I saw on a poster on the front of my LCS. This book didn't disappoint. It's a great mystery box story, and there is clearly a lot left to unpack and learn after this first volume. I'm not sure how Tynion will wrap it up in just one more book. (Maybe that's why there's a sequel series?) This is my first exposure to Tynion's work, and I am really enjoying him as a writer and REALLY enjoying the art by Álvaro Martínez Bueno. My only gripe so far is that there are a LOT of characters to keep track of, and I'm still not entirely sure who is who. But I will definitely be continuing with the series and have already started volume 2!
