Proserpina Markham, Auden Guest, Saint Sebastian Martinez, Becket Hess, Rebecca Quartey, & Delphine Dansey.
I’m torn about this book. OTOH, I devoured it and couldn’t put it down. OTOH, I don’t like the ending. While I knew this had magical realism, I just didn’t expect that ending. It was bittersweet and I cried so much. I don’t really think there’s
a HEA though
. I just really wanted
all 6 of them to be together still living at Thornchapel
. Knowing nothing about
the other world beyond the door, I don’t think of it as a happy ending
. Also, we never found out
who Saint’s biological father was
… I understand why it was written open-ended like that to prove Saint would have chosen Auden no matter what, I just don’t like not knowing. I can’t help feeling that way and I’m sad. I also disliked Becket’s character arc… he deserved more.

Sierra Simone (Thornchapel, #4)

ā€I’m only a man, St. Sebastian. I can only lose you so many times before I lose myself too.ā€

If there’s one thing Sierra Simone knows how to do, it’s write a series finale.

I can’t believe that it is finally the end of this addicting series! As expected this took me on such a wild ride, and I enjoyed every single minute of it. In this book, we finally get into Auden’s head and man is it angsty in there. This man gave Ash a run for his money with the way he talked about St. Sebastian. I mean, phewwwwwww. Their relationship was definitely the one that I was most invested in because of the tangible tension between them and the constant push and pull that was so volatile.

Basically, every single relationship is frayed in this book so there’s a lot of work to get it back to where it needs to be. There is tension and conflict and a lot of rituals and so much love. Above it all, reigns love.

The mystery and intrigue of Thornchapel is truly one of a kind and only Sierra Simone could do it justice.

If there was ever a conclusion to conclude a series this was it! This book pretty much put me through the wringer, I mean I went through every emotion possible I think. Sierraā€˜a writing is so beautiful. I really can’t say more than this. But if you have read the other books then you really need to read this one ASAP!

I had to wait two days before I wrote a review; that's how much this book killed me emotionally. This book ended in the most emotionally devastating way, but that was the whole point. It ended in a way I never expected, and while that was hard for me, I've spent the last two days thinking and concluded that there was no other way for this series to end but in the way it did.

This series taught me that some books need to be read slowly, so I use audiobooks. Sierra writes her books to be sipped like a piping hot cup of tea. The characters are all so real to me, as if what is going on is truly possible in a small valley in England, separated from the outside world. The weaving of history, of the families dating back a few hundred years, to their descendants in the current day, with the added mysticism from fairytales and religious practice, both Catholic and pagan, is done flawlessly. These characters will stick with me, as Thornchapel will stick with me. Whenever I go for a hike and see any flower with colors similar to bruises, I might expect to see a door waiting for me.
