I didn’t want this series to end. Really love her writing. SO MUCH ANGST and I love it. Less into all the nature imagery because snooze but the story was fun.
I need so much more than we were given at the end of this book!!! What does the other side of the door look like? How is it different? Who owns Thorncastle? Is it a parallel universe or totally different? AHHHHH!!! My frustration aside I liked that everything came together and most of our questions were answered. The series was fun and I liked the pieces of magic intertwined. One thing though… for the endless ways an author can refer to male genitalia why in the world was organ the chosen term…. I guess there was so much spice in other scenes you needed to cool it down with the oh not so erotic word organ. Overall the series was a solid 3.5 - 4 stars and i know in a couple of years I’ll re-read and enjoy it again.
Really 4.5, but I’m rounding it up. This has become one of my new favorite series. It’s dark, it’s compelling, it’s addictive, and the writing was stunning all the way through. And now that I’ve read the whole series, I think people are making the “taboo” aspect of it a whole lot bigger of a deal than it needs to be, because as I hoped, the reader is left to draw their own conclusions about that particular plot point. That’s enough for me. Though there were plot points in this book that confused me and there was maybe another way things could’ve been resolved, it’s the writing that makes me love it and fall so deeply into the story. This has actually convinced me to give the New Camelot series another chance. Sierra Simone is an author I only discovered this year, and I’m so glad I did.

Holy f*cking sh!t that was a roller coaster. Door of Bruises is the final book in the Thornchapel Series by Sierra Simone and when I say epic conclusion I meant epic conclusion. The door is well and truly open and what’s on the other side demands a sacrifice or it will continue to poison Thorn Valley. I truly did not see this ending the way it did. Honestly Simone writes in such a way that anything is possible. This book was magical, erotic, heartbreaking, beautiful, tragic and perfection. I can say, with my whole chest, this is a five star series. Please, please, please go read this series.
Excuse me while I finish ugly crying. Good god! Yes, in the end everyone got their HEA. I should comfort myself with that, right?? Silver fox Auden and saint, together with poe, Rebecca and Delphine married and still at thornchapel and Becket is still serving his god. The ending is so good and angsty and it all makes big sense. Sierra Simone is such a master at her craft. Really truly. I had to re-examine the Sierra Scale with some of the taboo parts. But she handled it so well, in a way that all the characters were given their space for their feelings and a sense of inevitability. She leaves the question of saints paternity open - never with a definite answer. Just 2 possible options. And to me it makes sense that this is a quantum question - as is referenced in the book. It’s religious and scientific. It’s prehistoric and modern. The view by which you examine any situation colors the interpretation. It could be both. A threat and a curse and a promise. So is saint and audens love wrong? Is Becket wrong for being a priest and loving his friends through prehistoric ritual? Ahhhh THIS SERIES. Come for the gothic polyamorous love story, stay for the deep feeling and philosophical thoughts.
