All the parents read this book ALONG WITH my friends and I when we had to read this book for AP English. I think everyone should read this book, as it teaches an important lesson about scientific ethics. It was informative but also engaging. Sad, but it inspires hope for the future now that Henrietta's story has finally been told

Learning more about the history of Henrietta Lacks and the origin of the Hela cells in a narrative form was very touching and gave me a better understanding of the stigma that continues to this day between the african american patient demographic and healthcare providers. a lot of patients struggle to trust that providers are looking out for their best interest, or even have the knowledge or ability to advocate for their patient's best interest. this reminds me of other stories of human medical errors that I've read as well for class. I think its important to remember these moments to see how far we've come, stay humble, and to not repeat the errors of the past instead of just over-emphasizing and celebrating the achievements.
the writing was repetitive at times but I think it was to solely to maintain clarity, pacing was smooth.

Although I am happy that Henrietta’s story was finally told, I think it would have been more impactful if it was told by someone else. There were countless moments, where Skloot’s writing left me feeling uncomfortable and annoyed. Her retelling of the many trauma’s faced by members of the Lack’s family lacked empathy. It felt very detached, as if the details were thrown in simply for shock factor. Her depictions of the family members themselves also had the same undertone. I, obviously, can’t say for sure whether Skloot’s heart was in the right place when we putting together this book (although she tells us repeatedly that is was), something in me didn’t sit right reading this.
