Book 2 in the series. This one just was not for me. I picked it up multiple times and just kept reading the same bits over again, since I truly found it forgettable. DNF.

I enjoyed this second entry in the Enchanted Bay series. The world building has expanded and really draws you into the story.

Alex was slightly annoying this time around, as she was a bit reckless and single-minded regarding the investigation of her friend/distant relative Celeste in the death of a romantic rival. However, the mindset was also effective in uncovering the truth regarding a second murder.

The ending did have a twist I wasn’t expecting. We’re also left with the cliffhanger of the relationship status of Alex and Jack.

I’m eagerly awaiting the next entry in this series.

Alex Daniels is at it again trying to solve yet another murder mystery in the magical town of Bellamy Bay, North Carolina. This town is full of magicals and mundanes, mundanes are humans with no magical ability. I loved the setting and the magical elements of this story. This is a paranormal cozy mystery that involves mermaids, dragons, and water witches.

Alex must help her cousin Celeste out when Celeste is accused of murder all while helping out at her familys' herbal apothecary and dating Jack, the detective on the case. I found this to be very fast-paced with a lot of action. Alex is adept at sleuthing and asking the tough questions needed to find out who the murderer is.

The story takes many twists and turns with plenty of magical elements, red herrings, and drama to keep me turning the pages. As for romance, Alex seems to be torn between Jack and Dylan. I find myself rooting for Dylan, a love interest from the first book in the series.

This book delivered for me with a surprise twist at the end! I look forward to the next book in the series.

This is officially my favorite Cozy Mystery Series to date! Esme Addison is a wonderful writer and has created both delightful, well-developed characters and an enchanting world for readers to indulge in. I read the first book in the series and now the second in a two-day time span... I couldn't put them down! The Paranormal trope is executed perfectly, in fact, that's what I find so enthralling about this series. It's obvious that the author has done her research and put great effort into the fascinating world she's created. I wish I could take a weekend trip to this charming seaside town, stay at the Bed and Breakfast, grab a turmeric latte at Coffee o'clock and spend the afternoon learning about herbal remedies at Botanika.

In A Hex For Danger, we are back in Bellamy Bay where Alex and her family are beginning preparations for the annual Mermaid Festival, this event comes tourists and a renowned artist developing a mural to commemorate the festival. When the friendly artist, Neve is found murdered, Alex is convinced that there's something deeper and darker going on than meets the eye. She soon falls back into the role of amateur detective and enlists the help of mundane town reporter and newfound friend, Pepper to head up an independent investigation and clear the name of her friend and fellow witch, Celeste. With International Espionage and black magic at play, the hunt for the culprit takes a multitude of unexpected turns and lands Alex in a predicament with a Mundane who's aware of her and her family's Magical abilities and threatens to tell the unsuspecting town that there are in fact, Mermaids and Witches living amongst them. Determined to find the killer and protect her friends and family, Alex stops at nothing to uncover the truth in this mystery full of twists that will keep you guessing until the very end!

The character development is authentically well done. We get to know Alex, her Aunt Lidia, and cousins Minka and Kamila to a greater degree and the supporting characters from book one are tied into this story in an effortless way. We come upon a better understanding of their Mermaid ancestors and how their powers came to be, with greater depth into the magic system and how it works, which is done in a superbly perceptive manner. The world-building is second to none, the Author does a flawless job of transporting the reader to the shores of Bellamy Bay and feeling as though they've enacted an invisibility spell, giving the ability to watch the story unfold in an up-close and personal way. I'm very much looking forward to the Alex-Jack-Dylan "love triangle" developing further, my fingers are crossed Alex comes to terms with her feelings for Dylan and takes a chance on their spellbinding connection. I highly recommend this magnificent and magical Cozy Mystery Series, it's such a fun read from beginning to end - you won't be disappointed!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC Audio Version of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Mermaids, dragons and rare ozite. Bellamy Bay isn’t your normal beach town in this delightful cozy mystery. When a visiting artist is murdered all of the clues point to a magical nightmare for our heroine Alex as she tries to prove her friend Celeste innocent of the crime. When her investigation leads her to militarizing magical artifacts for nefarious purposes will she find herself in over her head? More detail oriented in a lot of the genre it’s a magical place Esme Addison has created and I can’t wait to see what the brewing war between the mermaids and dragon brings.

Alex is back again in Bellamy Bay with another mystery to solve. This time, the victim is an artist brought in to do a mural for the upcoming Mermaid Festival. She is found dead after finishing the mural. Jack is not at all happy about Alex trying to solve the mystery. However Alex is not about to stop when her friend Celeste is the presumed killer. Enlisting the help of her friends and family, Alex puts herself in danger to try to free Celeste from accusation.
Opinion
This is yet another winner from Esme Addison. Addison has crafted an awesome mystery. Ms. Addison has such a flair for creating new and fun characters. The story was epic. It is the perfect summer read, intriguing and stimulating without being gory.
Perhaps my favorite part was the addition of local (to NC) foods. Being a NC resident, I enjoyed the mention of some of my favorites you can't get anywhere else. I will have to say that the Carolina hot dog style is also good on a hamburger and if you are at the right Wendy's, you can get it off the menu.
I find myself fortunate that I read the first book as it came out and was able to get an ARC of this second book. I know that I have a favorite series with Alex and Esme Addison.
Many thanks to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook.
