A fun cozy mystery that brings out the sinister and the summer time.

Although I did not read the first Enchanted Bay Mystery, this one still reads well as a standalone--and I still felt connected to the characters and was able to understand the story perfectly.

Mermaids, witches, what else could be real?

With murders abundant in a small, magical town in North Carolina, you may just find out who killed them and what other myths and fairytales exist outside of books.

Okay so this is the second book in the series and I did like it. But, I guess I liked the first one better. This one did leave me curious about what was going to happen next, but I'm not getting a sense of urgency to do so. Which is fine, since the third book hasn't even been announced. Other than the fact that this book is talking about mermaids and other mythical  creatures in a unique way, this book and series doesn't stand out very much from the other cozies.  There are things that are starting to bother me in this series that didn't in the first, mainly because more attention was given to them in this book or because the relationship had progressed.
it appears that there is a love triangle-ish thing forming and I am not here for it- for several reasons.  And while both guys have their perks and reasons why they would be both good and bad for her. I guess  I wouldn't be so bothered by this if she hadn't already made a decision and picked one of over the other.  My second issue is for the second time, the person behind the crimes appears to have gotten away with it because in the end a character confesses. But it's revealed that someone else put them up to it or they were aware of what was being done (murder) and was okay with it and doing nothing to prevent he murders. And they are not held accountable for it.

I liked the first book in this series and was looking forward to read this one. Unfortunately this one was not my cup of tea as I found Alex a bit too rude and grated on my nerves.
I would recommend some more world building and definition of the magical system as there's plenty of fantasy elements.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Alex Daniels is extra busy right now, between helping to run the family business (an herbal apothecary) and helping her friend Celeste plan the annual Mermaid Festival. Then renowned artist Neve Ryland, who is in town to paint a mermaid-themed mural in the park, is found murdered. Celeste is the prime suspect because Neve had been spending so much one-on-one time with Celeste's boyfriend, Jasper. Alex is determined to clear her friend's name, and uncover the true killer.
I realy enjoy this series. It is a fun diversion from the normal set of fantasy characters. Set off the coast of NC, and with a cast of mermaids and dragons, it adds depth to the normal magical element. This is a fun quick read with a great mystery, perfect for anyone who enjoys mysteries or books in the fantasy genre.

This was a quick, easy read. I enjoyed revisiting Bellamy Bay and seeing what Alex, her magical family, and her neighbors have been getting into. I will say, at times it was difficult for me to keep all of the new characters straight and remembering what purpose they served to the larger plot. This is why I kept second guessing myself as to who the murderer was, even though my initial suspicious were correct. But I did not see one particular twist coming and liked that I was genuinely caught off guard (even though when I look back, all the signs were there). I most likely will continue on with the series.

"I'm actually tired of killing." - From A Hex for Danger

2.5

Going into this cozy mystery, I assumed it would be a little cheesy. I was wrong- it is over the top cheese. The mystery reveals are all made in such a cringeworthy fashion. Some parts of the rest of the story were really cute, and I wanted to love it, but between the MC being a cross between Mary Sue and a brat, and for whatever reason with her horrible boyfriend- I struggled with this one.
