Carley has a way with her words. I don’t know how she does it. She painted PEI in the most beautiful light, and even tho I don’t like oysters or seafood, I want to go see it for myself.

“As the last blush leaves the sky and the horizon disappears into twilight blue, headlights shine on the side of Ken’s work shed. My arms pebble. My skin knows.”

As always, I loved the pain that came with Lucy and Felix’s second chance romance. I found myself looking forward to the chapters in the past to get more back story of Felix and Lucy’s “relationship.” In the present day, I loved Felix’s sweetness and patience with Lucy.

“Our friendship is how I learned to compromise. It’s how I learned that the families we make are as significant as the ones we’re born into. It’s how I learned that the greatest loves are not always romances.”

My only issue was Bridget’s reason for going back to PEI was not great. I was expecting something far better and I was just kind of let down like, that’s it?

Overall I enjoyed the book. It had a really great Brooke Davis/Lucas Scott rain scene IYKYK!!!

Lucy hooks up with a cute guy she meets at restaurant in PEI only to discover it is her best friends brother, the off limits brother. 5 years later, when Bridget flees Toronto, Lucy has to finally face her true feelings.

This was a super cute story.  Yes, it was a romance between Lucy and Felix, but I loved that Bridget and Lucy's friendship was just as important to the story. It was such a fun and heartwarming read.

The setting plays such a big role throughout the story. PEI is its own character. It add so much charm and heart to the story. The vivid descriptions make me want to get on a plane asap.

Bridget and Lucy met 7 years ago and their friendship bloomed. They are there for each other through thick and thin. I am not surprised that Bridget
was so upset about moving, but theirs is a friendship that could survive the distance. I honestly guessed that this was the big secret early on, it was pretty obvious to me. If it wasn't her relationship in trouble, there was nothing else it could have been.
I adore their relationship. I really want a Bridget in Australia book now.

Lucy and Felix are electric. There are meant to be, end game. There is a fair bit of miscommunication between them. I wish they would have talked more about their relationship and been honest with Bridget. I get that they were afraid of telling her and worried that the other didn't feel the same, but communication is key. I actually really liked the slow progression of their relationship. Yes, there was a tone of physical chemistry, but there was always an emotional element to them as well. They are drawn to one another and no matter the distance or obstacles, they always find their way back.

I am actually really glad that
they took a break from their relationship. Lucy really needed to find herself and take care of her needs/self. She had to grieve her aunt's passing and Bridget moving and figure out what she really wanted before throwing herself into a relationship.

The ending was adorable and everything I wanted for these two.

Tropes: best friends brother, forbidden-ish, friends-to-lover, secret romance

I’ve read all of Carley Fortune’s books, and once again, this is a great summer read! It was a bit of a struggle for me to get into at the beginning, especially since the time switches between chapters could be a bit confusing at times, but it turned a curve about halfway in. Once Lucy and Felix really started to grow into one another, I was hooked. While some storylines were forgettable, I fell in love with Lucy and Felix’s. Once I was able to get past the “fiction” of it all (AKA Felix and his whole situation seeming a bit unreal), their characters came to life for me. Also, as a quick mention, this book is SPICY! Overall, a solid feel-good summer novel.

I enjoyed this book but there was definitely something missing. The big secret that Bridget was keeping felt kind of “meh” to me and was a bit of a letdown, however, I really enjoyed how it all wrapped up in the end. While I did still enjoy this book, I think this was probably the biggest disappointment I’ve had in a long time in terms of books. Carley’s first two books were both 5 star reads for me, so I expected nothing less from her for her 3rd book, and unfortunately felt like that just was not the case. There was considerably more smut in this book than her previous ones, which is totally fine, just unexpected, and it felt like there wasn’t a ton of plot until the last 75 pages or so. Overall, it was still enjoyable and I’m glad I read it, but just a bit of a let down.

After being disappointed with MEET ME AT THE LAKE last year, I went into this book with lower expectations. But, Carley Fortune has redeemed herself! I absolutely loved this!

I saw some reviews claiming Lucy and Felix's relationship was insta-love/insta-lust, but I disagree. I think they meant for their hookup to be a one-time thing until they learned who the other was. If you know you're going to be seeing more of someone whose company you enjoyed than you thought, it makes sense that the chemistry would increase as time went on.

Fortune's writing is descriptive and creates such clear imagery for the reader. I loved Lucy and Bridget's friendship, the banter between Lucy and Felix, the strong friendship theme and showing the importance of friendship, the found family. I love that this is a Canadian book set in Canada, and the readers know it is by the landmarks and well-known places mentioned in the book. One of the things I didn't like about the Chestnut Springs series was that it was only mentioned briefly that that series was set in Canada, and I wanted more of the setting in the books. This will be one of my favourite books of the year!
