This one kind of dragged for me. It took a while for the plot to move along. I’m disappointed that Drake and Saraya’s powers don’t grow stronger when together and now they’ll be separated in the next book.
Drake was really made to worship Saraya.
I found a few off putting moments in the book which I believe some thorough proof reading would solve it.
The book is story rich. So much is happening and yet, the important moments are cast aside as simply sentences that existed to inform the reader that 'this is relevant' but the author didn't have time or was running out of word count to elaborate. And, I wish the author would've taken some time delving into it. I wouldn't mind reading a few extra pages.
The book is itself brilliant with the culture, characters, background, and plot. The only drawback of this book lies with how the author skims over important parts of the book, and haphazardly adds moments that in their view are supposed to look smooth but as a reader feel very out of place and underwhelming. Like I said, needs some good proofreading, and the author will be able to pick these out.
Update 17/07/2022 : I’ve realised this haphazard editing could be because the books were released every month. Explains a lot of the grammatical errors and pacing. I read the kindle edition.

Spoiler
Saraya can wield lightning! It was such a 'whoa' moment that was over in a sentence. That's all that piece of information was worth. It killed my excitement. I wanted Saraya to marinate that information, think about it, and wanted some more on it. When the time came for Saraya to fight and use lightning, it wasn't really as exciting as it would have been. What could've been a very stimulating and interesting battle, ending up falling flat. She was also more powerful than before, because of her 'High Priestess' promotion. Now, what is that? What does it mean to be High Priestess? The author went into great detail about culture and goddesses, and the Order of Te'mari but this wasn't important enough to elaborate? Why was Saraya gifted with the mark of High Priestess? Why her? Is it because she's the only one alive from the order? What did the goddess see in her? Why Saraya? What does this promotion mean? And why so suddenly, out of the blue? (The book title itself calls her the warrior priestess so that was, in fact, a very important moment that needed to be elaborated.) And that again was simply ended with a few sentences. Saraya was quick to accept everything the goddess Umali demanded. Goddess spoke in riddles. If Saraya understood, I wish she would've explained some more to us unaware readers what it was. I wanted to feel Saraya as the badass and powerful woman she was, but the lack of explanation just made her... well, not as interesting. I also wished there was more of Drake's character written in. His power and what he was was mentioned a great deal but not who he was. These two characters are lovely, my only disappointment and fault I carry for the series is that the author isn't doing them justice. The book is itself brilliant with the culture, characters, background, and plot. I did an ARC read of this book. Omg. I am not okay after that ending! Talk about a cliff hanger! Must get book 3 soon! This is the second book I the journey of Saraya. I throughly enjoyed getting to see where her journey took her! I am so anxious to continue her story in book three!
By no means as good as the first one tbh but it was still pretty good. The sex scenes were kinda mid so it took away a bit from the story also the ending seemed kind of unnecessary. I may read the third at some point but I think I need a break first before I start it rip.

As with the first book, I love that the author has included a list of potential triggering topics included in the book. The Warrior Priestess is quite a bit darker then the first book, but still keeps the reader completely engaged. I would have read it in one sitting if I didn't have to go to sleep, but I did finish it in one evening and one afternoon. There was enough action that I never knew what was going to happen next, and there was never a dull moment. I am anxiously awaiting book 3 to read what happens next in Saraya's journey.
This books has so many trope :
✅enemies-to-lovers
✅arranged/forced marriage
✅fated mates
✅who did this to you
✅one bed
and so on...
it should work, I should have liked it... but I didn't.
this book was written by a midwife, for midwives, and it shows. The wording of everything related to midwifery is detailed and precise and it's just sometimes too much. The realism of the words and details got me out of the story way too many times.
I mean, why say "I can stop my body from releasing an egg" rather than something like "I can stop myself from getting pregnant"? This was said more than once and it was already too cringy the 1st time.
The story is a slow burn. It's entended for 18+ readers, as there are explicit sex scenes (few and fast ones though). However, the syntax, the dialogues and the writing in itself felt more YA/middle school to me, as things are often more explained than showed. The discrepancy between the feeling of what the book is and what it should be threw me off and ultimately it's what bothered me the most. That's why I won't be reading the last book.
