Had been meaning to read this for years. An interesting insight in to a complicated and troubled mind. Touches on the genre of absurd a little too in that you feel like nothing is happening. The whole book maps out a detailed journey of someone who it turns out is extremely troubled and a bit traumatised. This isn’t made clear until almost the end.

I read this weeks ago and still can’t say the idiom “it kills me how...” without having a little laugh to myself.

I can see why this one is studied in schools. Holden is one of the most fascinating characters I've ever read. Confounding, contradictory, complicated, tender and fragile and one step away from destruction.

Spend a day in Holden's shoes, and maybe you, like I, will love this unlovable and complex young man.

I don't really have much to share apart from the fact that I actually really enjoyed this one. I think it captures teen angst quite well, about everything being 'phony' and lousy'. Whilst Holden isn't the most likeable protagonist, it was interesting to see how he spent his few days, and how he spent his money, albeit quite strangely.
